Talk:59th Virginia Infantry Regiment

Some of the information here does not seem correct

edit

Edgar's Battalion fought in West Virginia and Virginia—not South Carolina, Georgia, or Florida. The article is not clear if its information is for the 59th or Edgar's Battalion. See NPS info for 26th Battalion here and Civil War in the East info here. See also the NPS info for the 59th here. It is unclear how the 59th continued after much of it was captured and four companies became part of Edgar's Battalion. However, it did continue. Perhaps there is also some confusion with the 26th Virginia Infantry Regiment. TwoScars (talk) 20:10, 12 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hello TwoScars. I came across this article again, I think the creator of the article mashed the two units together, the 26th should have a separate page for its history, this is very confusing. But since the 59th page is a redirect for the 26th I think that redirect would have to be eliminated for a stand-alone page for the 26th. Dubyavee (talk) 19:48, 30 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
I rewrote part of the article to separate the 26th Battalion from the 59th. They were separate units. The info. at the NPS is not correct according to Lee Wallace's A Guide to Virginia Military Organizations 1861-1865 and Sefakis' book on Virginia Confederate units. The 26th Batt. operated as part of the Dept. of Western Virginia and was never in Florida or South Carolina and were under the command of Echols and Breceknridge. I am preparing a separate article on the 26th Battn.. Dubyavee (talk) 20:25, 3 November 2021 (UTC)Reply
