IHO
editIn the preface of the third edition the IHO states that the limits Pacific-Atlantic are proposed and they are not to be regarded as representing the result of full geographic studies.
So, the reason IHO definition isn't a definition but a proposal. Moreover, the IHO states that this has not been accepted by Chile nor Argentina. As the definition has for Argentina some geopolitical relevance, Wikipedia should reflects the exact content of the source. --Best regards, Keysanger (what?) 20:47, 29 July 2013 (UTC)
- The International Hydrographic Organization states that "The Southern boundary line between the South Atlantic and South Pacific Oceans is the meridian of Cape Horn (67°16'W)". Yes, this may not be 100% official or accepted, but it is at least a definition from a reputable source. You arbitarily changed the boundary to 57°16'W, which is much less official and essentially dreamed up out of nowhere. Sorry if you don't like the IHO definition (which I will properly reference in the article), but unless you can provide a WP:RS for your alternative, then we can't possibly accept it. - I meant the Wikipedia community. Sorry, of course I shouldn't speak on behalf of everyone, but my point still stands - the Wikipedia policy is that reliable sources should be used, and you can't just change the referenced information unless you have a alternative reliable source, and even then the change should be discussed unless entirely non-controversial.
