Talk:42nd Infantry Brigade (United Kingdom)

There is no more 42nd Brigade

edit

It is simply HQ/Headquarters Northwest.

Agreed and updated: most of this article is about 42nd Brigade so I have moved the article back to the title it previously had. Dormskirk (talk) 08:40, 31 March 2018 (UTC)Reply
Title should be changed to HQ North West. Sammartinlai (talk) 09:33, 31 March 2018 (UTC)Reply
This article is one of a long series of articles about British Army brigades. The brigade has a long history going back to the Second Boer War whereas HQ North West is a very new formation. HQ North West might justify an article of its own if it is notable. Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 09:43, 31 March 2018 (UTC)Reply
Ok thanks. Please update the 1st UK Division page then to reflect the change.Sammartinlai (talk) 10:11, 31 March 2018 (UTC)Reply
Happy to do so. But do you know what the changes are? For example do 2nd Battalion, Duke of Lancaster's Regiment, 2nd Battalion, Mercian Regiment, 4th Battalion, Duke of Lancaster's Regiment and 4th Battalion, Mercian Regiment still report to HQ North West? i.e. is this just a re-branding of the previous structure or are the units being dispersed to other formations? I note that the commander is Colonel Phil Harrison (see [1]). I doubt whether as a colonel, rather than a brigadier, he still has responsibility for the four battalions. They are still changing under Army 2020 Refine and the British Army as you see has changed their website. So I can't give direct links but https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Administrative_structure_of_the_field_forces_of_the_British_Army has the almost correct information. Yes HQ NW is a Colonel-level command he as command of 2 Mercian and 4 Lancs (my calculations). Sammartinlai (talk) 11:07, 31 March 2018 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for that. It appears 4 Mercian reports to 12th Armoured Infantry Brigade. Do you know who 2 Lancs reports to? Dormskirk (talk) 11:21, 31 March 2018 (UTC)Reply
2 Lancs as before will rotate between UK and Cyprus. See https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/632554/2017-02130.pdf Sammartinlai (talk) 12:06, 31 March 2018 (UTC)Reply
OK. I would feel more comfortable understanding the precise chain of command before attempting to update the 1st UK Division page. Let's see how things develop. Dormskirk (talk) 12:47, 31 March 2018 (UTC)Reply
I mean you could remove 42nd Brigade which is listed there. Not to change the sub-units.Sammartinlai (talk) 13:15, 31 March 2018 (UTC)Reply
Agreed and done. Thanks. Dormskirk (talk) 15:00, 31 March 2018 (UTC)Reply
