Copyright violation edit

I contest that this article is not a copyright violation. My reasoning for this is the fact that this material comes from an official US Air Force page. And since all branches of the US military, and Government release their documents in the public domain, this article should be no different. -- malo (tlk) (cntrbtns) 22:55, 28 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Well, the original page (if it is the original page - there seem to be several possibilities) says
"Much of the information about World War II was confirmed by Garry Fry and Jeffrey Ethell's book Escort to Berlin (Copyright 1980, Arco Publishing, Inc., New York, NY)"
It is not at all clear to me whether "confirmed" means "checked" or "copied", nor whether an official US government source using copyrighted material makes it public domain. -- ALoan (Talk) 00:59, 29 December 2005 (UTC)Reply
(This seems to be a closer match for the original page, BTW - note the last paras). For what it's worth, I honestly believe that "confirmed" there means "checked", not 'copied'; equivalent articles are there for all other 4th FG squadrons, but the 335th FS seems to have created their own webpage, reused that history, and added a note that someone checked it. Fine - if you are happy, I am happy. At the least, we ought to cite the source, no? -- ALoan (Talk) 02:02, 29 December 2005 (UTC)Reply
I agree it should cite its source, and presently Shimgray has made it so. -- malo (tlk) (cntrbtns) 04:25, 29 December 2005 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. (I don't normally try to argue for leniency on copyright disputes, but this'n just smells right). I'll make sure it's added - in fact, I'll have a quick wikify, source and rewrite just now. Shimgray | talk | 02:14, 29 December 2005 (UTC)Reply
I need to learn a better definition of "quick"... done now. Shimgray | talk | 04:08, 29 December 2005 (UTC)Reply
Looks good, nice work. -- malo (tlk) (cntrbtns) 04:25, 29 December 2005 (UTC)Reply
