National variety of English edit

Per MOS:RETAIN, the form of English used at the time of the article's creation should be used unless there is a national variety with strong ties to the topic. As there is no host nation decided, the original variety should be retained. This is a longstanding guideline, but just because an American dares to write about the sport doesn't mean it is fair to renege on it. SounderBruce 05:46, 19 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

It doesn't work like that. The entire page has not connection, for the time being, with something American. The basic standard should be British English. Island92 (talk) 05:14, 20 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
"When no English variety has been established and discussion does not resolve the issue, use the variety found in the first post-stub revision that introduced an identifiable variety."
British English is not the default. Never has been, never will be. SounderBruce 05:31, 20 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
The policy has to be changed then, because in the background this is the English British version of the encyclopedia, rather than the American ones. Island92 (talk) 05:42, 20 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
