Ramadan edit

There are 2 options here - either I'm an idiot or ther's something wrong. The Ramadan article says that the holiday will begin on 11 March in 2024, but in the article about this race in Bahrain, it says that the holiday will begin on 10 March. And by the way, Moto GP races on 10 March in Qatar, dont they celebrate Ramadan there? -- -- 212.164.39.97 (talk) 07:11, 25 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

I'm by no means an expert but my understanding is as follows:
  • Although Ramadan officially begins on Monday 11 March it is common for some celebrations to start the evening before (evening of Sunday 10 March) when the Grand Prix would normally be held.
  • The reason the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix isn't taking place on Sunday 10 March is to keep local viewing figures up (both in person attendance and tv) not because having the event on that date is somehow not possible.
  • Even if that previous point is incorrect, and hosting thr event on the eve of ramadan isn't possible, Qatar will have different rules around this. Additionally, the MotoGP takes place on a closed circuit, not a street circuit which will contribute to the feasibility of a shorter turn around time.
