Withdrawn teams

@Chanheigeorge, 대한민국 헌법, Paninigenie, Tomlui007, and Hhkohh: There are already 5 teams that have withdrawn from AFC Cup this season. So I think it's important to give specific information about those withdrawn teams in the article. In the 2017 AFC Cup article, there are also sections for withdrawn teams: teams that originally in the competition but eventually withdrew. So I plan to add similar information to this article. Fauzannaufan, should we write 'App.' as "App. to be" for the teams in the withdrawn section? As those teams not really appeared and may create confusion in the future appearances numbering in the future AFC Cups. Laser Victor 2017 ❯❯❯ talk 19:15, 2 May 2021 (UTC)

@Fauzannaufan:, deleting the appearance columns will contradict to WP:RECENTISM. Also in other wiki pages like 2009 Arab Cup, where a similar case of not HAPPENING can be seen, we can find the "to be". So, I think it's better! Laser Victor 2017 ❯❯❯ talk 18:17, 3 May 2021 (UTC)

@Laser Victor 2017 and Hhkohh: I think we have to discuss about the appearance count for ACL and AFC Cup, including withdrawn teams. What does count as an appearance? There are many different cases in 2020 and 2021 edition that involved cancellation of matches and withdrawal of teams that we can analyze.

1. Ahal and Tai Po withdrew from AFC Cup 2020 without playing any match.

2. All teams in AFC Cup East zone didn't play any match before the competition stopped, but never withdrew

3. Al Wahda, Al Hilal, and Johor Darul Ta'zim withdrew from ACL 2020 group stage, but they have played some matches

4. Shan United, Jiangsu, and Shandong Luneng withdrew from ACL 2021 without playing any match.

5. Oman clubs, Myanmar clubs, and Abahani Dhaka withdrew from AFC Cup 2021 without playing any match.

So from these cases, which case will be counted as an appearance for the participating clubs? Fauzannaufan (talk) 13:25, 12 May 2021 (UTC)

@Fauzannaufan: In my thinking, appearances will be counted when a team plays all eligible matches (without any extraordinary circumstances) in a usual competition as-is.
In the case of any different situation (due to any cause(s)), some of which are like what you said, I think the appearance will be counted when:

• A team was scheduled to play eligible matches in a cancelled competition, but they neither played any, nor withdrew, and,
• A team played at least 1 eligible match of the competition before withdrawing themselves (due to any reason).
  

So, your point 2 and 3 teams should be termed as appeared.
In all other cases, where the team either withdrew themselves, or was expelled from the competition before they played any matches, but was part of the respective competition at any point of time, then, in those cases App. to be should be used.
