Talk:2020 United States Senate election in Kentucky

Which polls belong

edit

Staking my claim that all polls related to this race should be included, regardless of whether they are partisan or include candidates not running. Before removing polls, let's discuss potential removal here. TheSavageNorwegian 01:50, 3 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

As long as there's a credible source attached I agree. WipediToya (talk) 14:39, 5 June 2020 (UTC)WipediToyaReply

Primary date?

edit

I'm surprised not to see this basic information included. Liz Read! Talk! 00:04, 8 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

It must have been added by someone before I got here because it's in the first paragraph. If that was you, thank you for putting that in there. WipediToya (talk) 14:40, 5 June 2020 (UTC)WipediToyaReply

Endorsements based on Tweets

edit

Shouldn't there be more to an endorsement than just a tweet or retweet? There's one listed under McGrath that, as a "source" literally only lists a candidate telling Matt Jones he shouldn't run so that we can have a woman represent us instead. There's no way that's enough of a source for an endorsement of McGrath. There are other women running i.e. Marry Ann Tobin and Maggie Jo HillardWipediToya (talk) 14:56, 5 June 2020 (UTC)WipediToyaReply

Yeah just took a look. Some of those are not sufficient to be sources. Sayinf you've donated or support someone's tweet doesn't equate to an endorsement. It looks like all the candidates have those listed. PFCGrunt (talk) 16:07, 5 June 2020 (UTC)PFCGruntReply

I'm going to go through and mark them as needing better citations. That one that doesn't even mention the candidate needs to go though. WipediToya (talk) 17:35, 5 June 2020 (UTC)WipediToyaReply

Elizabeth Warren endorsement

edit

Elizabeth Warren currently endorses Charles Booker, while she previously endorsed Amy McGrath; both of the sources for these are tweets. However, when I placed something in the article that said that Warren previously endorsed McGrath, it was removed on the grounds that McGrath wasn't listed on Warren's endorsement website. Should we include that Warren formerly endorsed McGrath? --Numberguy6 (talk) 22:47, 20 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

Jesse Jackson endorsement

edit

Jesse Jackson was the Shadow U.S. Senator for DC. Is that equivalent to a Senator, or is that a statewide official? --Numberguy6 (talk) 19:08, 22 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

Debates

edit

I'm surprised not to see mention of at least 2 democratic debates in the primary. Listing them would link to news articles so future readers can see what the issues were in the campaign, without a lot of detail in this article. Is there a reason not to add them? Inclusion of Brad Barron (Libertarian) in the Infobox

edit

I see that Brad Barron was removed from the infobox with the suggestion that there is some "established precedent" not to include him or Libertarian candidates. It wasn't me that added him, but I do often hear these sorts of claims that there is an "established precedent" with scant evidence of any such precedent. I would very much appreciate being pointed in the direction of such a precedent. What would it require for him to be included? Being on the ballot across the state? If he was polling well? Received significant coverage? We seem to regularly bat down anyone suggesting parties besides the Democrats or Republicans should be considered, but rarely take the time to explain why. The same sort of thing is happening at Talk:2020 United States presidential election where the past "established president" was thrown out the window (ballot access), and editors there have refused to set a new standard for what would qualify a third party or independent for inclusion. It seems we regularly move the goal posts (or refuse to even place them before the shot is made). If we are going to say Brad Barron can't be in the infobox, I recommend we at the very least say why and what would qualify him for inclusion.--Darryl Kerrigan (talk) 19:40, 2 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

I'm curious as well, especially considering that it appears he has since met the requirements to be included in the debates. If that doesn't make him notable or important enough, exactly what would? KingAdrock (talk) 21:17, 24 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

Order of General Election endorsements boxes

edit

Currently, it is in alphabetical order (Barron, McConnell, McGrath). I think it should go in order of political party (McConnell, McGrath, Barron). --Numberguy6 (talk) 18:28, 3 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

Tom Cotton endorsement

edit

Should Tom Cotton be listed under the Primary endorsements, or only the General endorsements? In his tweet, he explicitly refers to McConnell's victory, meaning it was after the primaries; however, the tweet also implies that Cotton supported McConnell in the primaries, since Cotton congratulates McConnell on his win. --Numberguy6 (talk) 22:04, 4 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
