Talk:2020–2023 North American drought

Move to North America edit

This article was started by covering the United States, but I moved it to "North America" as both Canada and Mexico are also experiencing drought in the 2021 season. -- phoebe / (talk to me) 18:09, 6 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

Proposal edit

@Tropical Storm Angela and Phoebe: I propose that this article should be renamed to 2020-21 Western United States drought. While drought did affect different regions of the United States in 2020-21, the majority of the drought was centered in the Western United States during this time so the article should focus on that. I think it would be much better if the article name stayed exactly as is; having an article on one region would only tell part of the story. Readers of English Wikipedia need to see the whole story, not part. The article name should remain 2020-21 North American drought because multiple regions were affected; those include Mexico, Canada and not just one region in the United States; it's multiple areas. thanks for the note - I agree the drought is much worse in the west and we should highlight that, but I don't want to drop the fact that it covered the whole continent either, particularly Canada & Mexico (we need more research to fill out those sections). It's also not unprecedented to have separate spinoff articles for drought in California in particular, so that could be a consideration for later in the season. phoebe / (talk to me) 18:59, 30 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

update on the 2020–21 North American drought edit

The drought has lessened in some portions throughout the United States; intensification of the drought, however, has taken place across certain other regions within the country, especially the Pacific Northwest and Upper Midwest. I added several references which reflect recent worsening of dry conditions in Iowa, Minnesota, both Dakotas, Nebraska and northern Illinois. Should these drought spells continue over Canada and the United States, proper updates with references are required to reflect any worsening, lessening and overall damage from the drought, associated heat wave and lack of rainfall. Weird formatting under "United States" heading edit

I can't tell why from glancing at the source, but I noticed there is a full page frame of blank space between the "United States" section heading and the first subheading ("West"). Is there an easy way to fix that? Ontheroad1957 (talk) 18:44, 12 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

How far out are we going? edit

I thought this article was originally going to just be about 2020-2021 drought/fires, but it seems to be expanding out to 2023 West and Midwest. At this rate the article will never end as there will always be a drought somewhere, so we should consider either keeping it at the original timeframe or, at most, through 2023 but just in the west as that's when this drought ended. That's just my opinion, though. Jamisonsupame (talk) 16:23, 12 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
