Protected edit request on 1 January 2019

A tropical storm may be to form within one hour. Why is this article fully protected?-- 🐱💬 06:25, 1 January 2019 (UTC)  🐱💬 06:25, 1 January 2019 (UTC)

The article is currently protected due to an edit dispute. If a new typhoon develops, it would be added to the article. Nakon 06:32, 1 January 2019 (UTC)
Who will? Now it is blocked to editors who update.-- 🐱💬 06:35, 1 January 2019 (UTC)
The article will be automatically unprotected within 24 hours. If the article needs to be updated soon, then please request an edit on the talk page. Nakon 06:40, 1 January 2019 (UTC)
I don’t think any administrator is willing to update immediately. I can presume that administrators are overusing their power to the 2019 season article and block editors from contributing to Wikipedia.-- 🐱💬 06:45, 1 January 2019 (UTC)
@Nakon and Swarm: TS Pabuk has formed. The revision is now on my sandbox. Please update immediately. Thanks.-- 🐱💬 07:05, 1 January 2019 (UTC)
@Meow: Calm down and remember to be friendly and polite. B dash (talk · contribs) randomly requested the full protection of this page via the Wikipedia:Requests for page protection board as he wrongly thought that a content dispute was going on. I have submitted a request for the page to be unprotected at the same board.Jason Rees (talk) 12:11, 1 January 2019 (UTC)
I am very calm and keeping updating in my sandbox. However, administrators should be really careful about not discouraging contribution during a very situation.-- 🐱💬 12:50, 1 January 2019 (UTC)

May I know what’s is an edit dispute? AAnnoonnyymous (talk) 16:51, 1 January 2019 (UTC)

It will be unprotected at about 3:30am UTC. I think we’ll need to wait. AAnnoonnyymous (talk) 16:54, 1 January 2019 (UTC)

Has been unprotected. Galobtter (pingó mió) 17:45, 1 January 2019 (UTC)

Article For Pabuk?

I think Pabuk deserves an article as it is extremely notable for its formation period and landfall location, also it's been a really bad storm for thailand already. BananaIAm (talk) 22:55, 4 January 2019 (UTC)

See what other info is out there and add it to the season article. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 01:35, 6 January 2019 (UTC)
Despite the unusual formation, I have not found the requirement for creating an separated article. 🐱💬 07:19, 6 January 2019 (UTC)

/* Semi-protected edit request for users with IP addresses */

I would like to request 2019 Pacific typhoon season article to be semi-protected so only confirmed/autoconfirmed users can edit due to users with IP address keep continues change Tropical Depression 01W formation from 19 January to 04 January after confirmed users warned users with IP addresses EllaCyclone EllaCyclone 10:15, 22 January 2019 (UTC)

I am against semi-protection at this time as the IP Users are are correct to be saying that 01W formed on January 4.Jason Rees (talk) 10:06, 22 January 2019 (UTC)

Article For Pabuk

Again i would like to suggest an article for TS Pabuk. The much less notable Bolaven from last year did, and pabuk was fairly damaging BananaIAm (talk) 20:03, 22 January 2019 (UTC)

Is there any information out there that isn't in the season section? By virtue of it being a year crosser and a basin crosser, the storm's information is already split up across three articles. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 20:55, 22 January 2019 (UTC)

Wutip

Wutip is officially a C5 according to the ATCF, can we please stop with the back and forth 02W WUTIP 190225 0600 13.9N 140.1E WPAC 140 918 [1]

Category Five typhoon status from JMA as well (105 kts - Furious)
Why does JTWC's RBT have the power to overrule what the JTWC are saying on their website operationally? At the end of the day we are not a news service and it doesn't overly matter if the CSI is up to date.Jason Rees (talk) 13:49, 25 February 2019 (UTC)
@Jason Rees: Because it's more up-to-date, and warnings never deviate from what they have in the BT (unless they specify something else in the actual warning text, which is usually followed by an asynoptic BT point).--Jasper Deng (talk) 01:58, 14 May 2019 (UTC)
I dont care if its more upto date, we are not a news service and We should not contradict what the JTWC are saying publically. People should also not be relying on us to have the most accurate and up to date information available in the CSI.Jason Rees (talk) 09:25, 14 May 2019 (UTC)
It never contradicts what the JTWC says publicly and comes earlier. Readers want the most up-to-date information. So there's no harm at all in using it.--Jasper Deng (talk) 09:32, 14 May 2019 (UTC)

Main Article for Wutip

I think Typhoon Wutip should have it’s own article, similar to how Typhoon Maysak does. If Maysak has an article, Wutip should. Both are the strongest in their respective months on record. EBGamingWiki (talk) 14:45, 12 March 2019 (UTC)

Maysak also affected several islands. I’m not gonna stop you, but I suggest you start with the non-MH material and see how much you end up with. If there is more than a paragraph or two of impacts, I’d say go for it. Hurricanehink mobile (talk) 15:49, 12 March 2019 (UTC)
@EBGamingWiki: I made a article about Wutip but the page title is in User: plus, Maysak only affected Micronesia and the Philippines. So should I move my page so the page could be a article? Or no. ╲\FireBlade708Talk/╱ 19:56, 17 May 2019 (UTC)
Does your user page have any additional content to the season article? There isn't much in the way of actual impact, but we knew that about the storm months ago. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 18:52, 18 May 2019 (UTC)
I would argue that any storm with a US Presdential Disaster Declartion that Wutip has is worth an article personally.Jason Rees (talk) 22:48, 19 May 2019 (UTC)

@Fireblade708: I agree. Wutip is definitely notable enough for its own article. Aside from its impacts, it broke the records for early season storm intensity. By the way, Fireblade708, your draft looks about ready for inclusion in article mainspace. If you give us permission, one of us (with page-mover rights) can move it into Wikipedia mainspace. @Hurricanehink: Would you mind moving the draft to Typhoon Wutip (2019) if Fireblade708 gives us permission to do so? LightandDark2000 🌀 (talk) 10:53, 20 May 2019 (UTC)

I’d rather give y’all permission to move my pages if it’s necessary to do so. I could move the page if so since the page has so reliable sources including NASA Blogs and other weather services. But I think the impact needs expansion so I would likely wanted my page to be moved into a article. ╲\FireBlade708Talk/╱ 14:21, 20 May 2019 (UTC)
Alright, I moved it. Good work on the article Fireblade. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 21:25, 20 May 2019 (UTC)

The two tropical depressions in May around Palau region are exactly the same

The two tropical depressions (TD) in May located within the Palau region are exactly the same. As of May 14, the TD count should be 6 and not 7.

The duplicate TD should be removed from the article as it is the same system and at the same location (Palau area). This is the TD that was spawned from 'May 7 to May 11'. The system merely regenerated after a brief period of weakening.

I was under that impression as well, but I remember the low completely dissipating into an open trough before the next tropical depression showed up, meaning that it could be counted as two separate storms (if the low or circulation completely dissipated - assuming I remember the maps correctly). It is possible, though that they actually are the same system. I would probably have to consult another experienced editor who has been monitoring those storms to help confirm this. What I do know, is that the regenerated storm around the Caroline Islands in May was the same system as the one that had existed there earlier that month. This storm had regenerated on May 13, after weakening into a remnant low 6 hours earlier. LightandDark2000 🌀 (talk) 21:14, 17 June 2019 (UTC)

JMA now recognising low pressure areas as tropical depressions? What?

So I read on the article that 'as of April 2, JMA will be recognising any low pressure areas as weak tropical depressions'.

This will render all recorded typhoon seasons TD count as completely inaccurate, unless painstaking adjustments are made to take into account the low pressure areas that were spawned and re-classified as tropical depressions throughout those years.

Let's just call a spade a spade. A low pressure area is not the same as a tropical depression. Period.

I would like to see a source for this accusation that an LPA is now the sae as a TD and until I do so i regard it as bullshit since the WWJP25 from May 13 says LOW PRESSURE AREA 1010 HPA NEAR 09N 153E NW SLOWLY.Jason Rees (talk) 19:15, 14 May 2019 (UTC)
I think the sentence meant that the JMA recognized a particular low pressure area as a weak TD, not that they're doing this for every area of low pressure.--Jasper Deng (talk) 00:07, 15 May 2019 (UTC)

PSA

As I've gotten tried of removing this from recent PTS articles, why do we continue to use hatnotes? We removed them from most non-recent PTS articles in 2010. WP:NAMB notes that "It is usually preferable not to have a hatnote when the name of the article is not ambiguous." Given the year in the title, how is there any ambiguity? Citations

Well it seems like @Keith Edkins: have been inactive updating on citations for our systems this year :( So what will happen now? Typhoon2013 (talk) 03:14, 29 June 2019 (UTC)

The 'citations needed' mark is now up to most sections, which is disappointing. Pinging some users to discuss this issue. @Jason Rees: @Meow: @Jasper Deng: Typhoon2013 (talk) 07:33, 16 July 2019 (UTC)
Sadly I do not know how to build an automatically archiving system. 🐱💬 08:50, 16 July 2019 (UTC)
There is no easy solotion to this but I will note that there are advisory archives out on the web and that there are now a lot more reports available from the NMHSS including PAGASA.Jason Rees (talk) 21:52, 16 July 2019 (UTC)

Orphaned references in 2019 Pacific typhoon season

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of 2019 Pacific typhoon season's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

I apologize if any of the above are effectively identical; I am just a simple computer program, so I can't determine whether minor differences are significant or not. AnomieBOT 00:32, 8 July 2019 (UTC)
