"Taiwan" wasn't forced to change the name of their Olympic team in the 1970s. There had never been a team called "Taiwan" in the first place since the government created in mainland China in 1911 was the Republic of China. They had always played as China. In the 1970s, the Republic of China was replaced by the People's Republic of China as the sole legitimate government of all of China in the UN, which resulted in the demotion of the Republic of China to Chinese Taipei in international organizations. The government from 1911, which now resides on Taiwan, has a continuity to this day. However, the biased English Wikipedia writes it as if after mainland China's return to the UN, there suddenly popped up another country called "Taiwan". This is even wrong in collective Western memory since the US had hoped Chiang would one day retake the mainland as non-Communist China. Good luck cleaning up all the biases which have infested all the articles concerning the Republic of China when the inevitable reunification comes.
