Talk:2019 County Championship

New style table edit

I created a module (somewhat similar to a template) for County championship matches. The ODI format is being used on the current world cup article, but does anyone have any views on the CC one. I've created a copy of the current table in my Sandbox : User:Spike 'em/sandbox/CrickTable. The reasons for doing this are to use standardised table formatting with other articles and allow for future tables to be of the same format each year. They allow the highlighting of individual teams if the table needs to be transcluded into individual County articles. Spike 'em (talk) 12:12, 17 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

I am not sure whether highlighting which teams are set to be relegated is an improvement (the information can be just as easily be conveyed textually once the season ends), and MOS:COLOUR suggests that using colours alone to convey information is not enough. I think the current format is appropriate for this article since it differs from the WC one (tie-breakers are different, and ODI cricket is much different from 4-day/5-day cricket in any case), and standardising would not be helpful. Of course, standardising tables for the same format is a better thing to do: just note that the sandbox is not strictly necessary as the standardised format can always be taken from the previous year's table anyway. In any case, if you do any further work, do be sure to make the tables sortable (as has been done with the current ones) - a simple yet very useful improvement. 107.190.33.254 (talk) 15:30, 2 July 2019 (UTC)Reply
I'm reusing the module code that is used in plenty of other sports: they use the colouring (along with text at the end of the rows) to highlight the relegation / promotion spots (e.g. {{2018–19 Premier League table}}). I've added the |sortable table= to the sandbox version so sort away!.Spike 'em (talk) 17:25, 2 July 2019 (UTC)Reply
It is also possible to remove the Qualification / Relegation column or decolour the rows by some simple parameter changes, see changes now. Spike 'em (talk) 17:31, 2 July 2019 (UTC)Reply
