Zone of Disturbed Weather 01R edit

Starting discussion here because why not. @ChocolateTrain: I'm afraid, but looking further into the MFR cyclone page, it appears they did not designate this system, nor they are issuing advisories on it. Usually I would be seeing a track map over in the map though I do not see it, otherwise they have changed their layout for the page, but I highly doubt that. I have checked sources ofc, though the MFR only classified it as a "tropical disturbance". I remember @Jason Rees: stating that anything mentioned as "tropical" should be added into the season totals. Atm I'm not going to edit this article until someone has stated something. What do you guys think about this situation? Should it have its own section or just add to the OS section? Typhoon2013 (talk) 09:07, 10 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

OS please as they are only talking about it in their TWO, while BoM called it a TL in their TWO.Jason Rees (talk) 09:40, 10 August 2017 (UTC)Reply
@Jason Rees: Yep ok and will do. So just to note that the season hasn't officially started as of now as the system was recognized by BoM and is an unofficial agency within this basin. Typhoon2013 (talk) 09:47, 10 August 2017 (UTC)Reply
The problem with that @Typhoon2013: is that their not overly, an unofficial agency that monitors this basin. After all they have responsibility for the marine warnings to 80°E and historically used to have the TC responsibility for the region until 1985.Jason Rees (talk) 10:18, 10 August 2017 (UTC)Reply
@Jason Rees: I mean they still mention TLs in some bulletin within the 80-90°E mark like this. Also are you considering that the BoM should also be considered as 'official' in this basin? If so, then therefore the season had already started right? This situation is confusing imo and should be discussed more. Typhoon2013 (talk) 10:25, 10 August 2017 (UTC)Reply
What im saying is that the BoM is not as unofficial for this region as people might think, since they have the rights to marine warnings for that area. Anyway we do not consider the season started until Reunion does.Jason Rees (talk) 10:55, 10 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

Button template edit

I don't know if it's just me, but the button template at the bottom of the article is not showing up. There are even no code errors in the template. Can someone fix this? Thanks. Typhoon2013 (talk) 04:55, 13 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

I'm experiencing the same thing. :/ I suppose something's wrong with the transclusion process as the buttons didn't show up when I placed the template in my sandbox. ~ KN2731 {tc} 09:07, 14 January 2018 (UTC)Reply
@KN2731: Omg I fixed it. Turns out it was the other dash (supposed to be "–" not "-"). Lol XD Typhoon2013 (talk) 09:23, 28 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

Current infobox rules for SWIO basin edit

Recently there has been a lot of people removing and re-adding the current infoboxes for active storms in this basin. Is there a rule for when and when not to include the infoboxes for this basin? I think it is important to standardise a procedure for all active storms in this basin so that it feels more organised. Damien4794 (talk) 07:26, 17 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

The infoboxes are included if and only if the RSMC is issuing (full) advisories on the system. Nothing else matters. Anyone going against that is defying long-held consensus of WP:WPTC.--Jasper Deng (talk) 08:46, 17 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

Main page for Berguitta edit

This storm is a very serious threat to the Islands. I think a main page is necessary at this time. EBGamingWiki (talk) 15:58, 17 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

If we can find sufficient information and sources regarding impacts and such. A draft may be more appropriate for now to collate information, before publishing once it's complete enough. ~ KN2731 {tc} 13:55, 18 January 2018 (UTC)Reply
Some sources to start with for anyone feeling up to writing: [1], [2], [3], [4], [5], [6], [7]. ~ KN2731 {tc} 14:03, 18 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

Picture for Cebile edit

Cebile was a long-lived tropical cyclone and there are many pictures for it. The following pictures are all visible, which is better for the season article?

  • Comment - The current image in use is fine, but these images would all be good to use in an article specific to that storm. LightandDark2000 (talk) 01:32, 17 February 2018 (UTC)Reply

I have an idea for a picture. When Cebile was reintensifying, it had a clear eye and spiral binding features. Here it is: Cebile 2018-01-31 0524Z.jpg HurricaneCalebN (talk) 11:09, 29 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

Consensus for post-tropical period edit

@Cyclonebiskit:@Jason Rees:@LightandDark2000:@Typhoon2013: Some people included the post-tropical period for the duration of some cyclones, and I had to change them back as of today. The problem is that the definition of post-tropical in this basin is different from other basins', as it just means ‘cyclones undergoing an extratropical transition’. We should have the consensus to define if the duration should include the post-tropical period as soon as possible. 🐱💬 06:35, 4 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

This information would definitely be incorporated into a storm's duration in a storm-specific article. However, in the main seasonal articles, we just use the date of a storm degenerating into a remnant low, or completing an extratropical transition, as the date of "dissipation." If the storm is becoming extratropical, but has not yet become fully extratropical, we would still treat that storm as being "currently active", even in the cyclone season articles. LightandDark2000 (talk) 06:23, 12 March 2018 (UTC)Reply
@LightandDark2000:The situation is a bit complicated in this basin. As the south border of the responsible area of RSMC La Réunion is at 40°S, the best track database does not include the extratropical period for many of systems as they moved out of area before completing an extratropical transition. If we agree with your idea, we will need to change all dissipation dates to the end of the post-tropical period for all systems in this basin. We still need a third person for the better consensus, as this is very different from other basins. 🐱💬 01:31, 16 March 2018 (UTC)Reply
We shouldn’t be including the post tropical pierod since most of the time Reunion stands up and stops issuing advisories.Jason Rees (talk) 13:23, 16 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

Unisys archives edit

Hi all, I have just replaced the link for the Unisys archives with that of a duplicate website radar.duxpond.com since the new Unisys website no longer contains the archive (or I couldn't find it). It seems like the website continues to archive data from after the Unisys website upgrade so I hope it's here to stay. Fingers crossed. Damien4794 (talk) 11:43, 16 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

Flamboyan trivia edit

Flamboyan retained its name after moving into the basin, becoming the first moderate tropical storm in the South-West Indian Ocean basin to be named by TCWC Jakarta in history.

This is followed by a note - Durga in April 2008 exited from this basin. Bakung in December 2014 entered as a remnant low. This seems difficult and dubious to cite, along the lines of using HURDAT to verify a record in the Atlantic. I'm going to remove it, but if anyone can find a source, I'd appreciate it. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 17:00, 15 March 2022 (UTC)Reply
