I think this article could be put into mainspace. The current season is over, so article's about next season are acceptable. (Ex. 2016–17 NCAA football bowl games). This article just needs some info. WikiOriginal-9 (talk) 03:32, 7 February 2017 (UTC)Reply
@WikiOriginal-9: Thanks for the quick response. Do you think this is okay to post even with the blank sections? NewYorkActuary (talk) 03:48, 7 February 2017 (UTC)Reply
Looking at the past three bowl season articles, two were made in May and one in March. According to this article, some games have already been announced. It needs expanding but I doubt anyone will nominate it for deletion. We could just remove the sections. WikiOriginal-9 (talk) 04:00, 7 February 2017 (UTC)Reply
@NewYorkActuary: Lol, and within minutes of you moving the page, someone expanded it. WikiOriginal-9 (talk) 19:29, 7 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

Number of bowl games edit

There are 41 bowl games. Someone keeps reversing it back to 40 games. I added a source this time so hopefully they stop reversing it back to 40. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 161.225.96.152 (talkcontribs) 19:23, 15 June 2017 (UTC)Reply

I am not one of the editors who previously reverted you, but I see that someone (I'm not sure whether it's you or someone else) has recently reinserted the 41 figure. Since no one has replied to you on this talk page, I am going to revert the 41 figure now with an explanation. First, you didn't add a source to the article; you just linked to a source [1] in your edit summary [2] rather than in your edit itself. Your source shows 41 bowls because that particular source includes the Celebration Bowl. Other sources, such as [3] and [4] which are used in the article, show 40 bowls because they do not include the Celebration Bowl since it is a lower-division (FCS) bowl. This article only covers the top-division FBS bowls. Now, one could argue that lower-division bowls should be included -- but if so, then the number of bowls is much higher than just 41, since we would also have to include the Mineral Water Bowl, Live United Texarkana Bowl, Corsicana Bowl, and many more lower-division bowls. If you look at Wikipedia articles for past years like 2016–17 NCAA football bowl games, 2015–16 NCAA football bowl games, etc., the precedent has been to not include lower-divisional bowls. If you feel that should be changed, you will need to establish a consensus for that change to occur in the College Football WikiProject at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject College football. —Lowellian (reply) 07:40, 15 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
Yes, there are 40 FBS bowl games this year (down one from last year), including the FBS Championship game. As for FCS bowl games, I think they should be listed at 2017 NCAA Division I FCS football season#Bowl games. In fact, that currently lists only the Celebration Bowl, so adding the others would improve that article. Mudwater (Talk) 11:41, 15 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
Upon further review, I did not read Lowellian's post with sufficient care. This article should list only the 40 FBS bowl games, in my opinion. The 2017 Celebration Bowl is listed at 2017 NCAA Division I FCS football season#Bowl games. Those other bowl games are not FCS games, they're in other divisions, so they should be listed elsewhere. List of Teams one loss away from bowl ineligibility edit

How does a team get off of this list (without winning out and becoming bowl eligible)? Florida State was on this list yesterday, but not today. --Drmcarthur (talk) 15:46, 8 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

@Drmcarthur: I think on November 8, it was simply incorrect. FSU lost to Clemson on November 11, giving them their 6th loss, and now if they lose to Florida or to LA-Monroe, they will be ineligible. Probably, someone added them to the list not realizing their game with LA-Monroe was going to be made up. --B (talk) 14:49, 21 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
@B: Originally, it wasn't going to be made up...but FSU realized that if it wasn't, they'd be bowl-ineligible for the first time since the 1981 season. So they rescheduled that game to make sure that the streak would stay alive-thing is, if they lose to Florida this weekend, it'll all be for naught. "Current sports-related event" tag edit

I think it would be appropriate to remove the {{Current sport}} tag from the top of the article now. It says, "This article documents a current sports-related event. Information may change rapidly as the event progresses. Initial news reports, scores, or statistics may be unreliable. The last updates to this article may not reflect the most current information." Yes, the bowl season is about to get underway, and the game scores will be added over the next few weeks. But now that all the games have been scheduled, and the article updated to reflect them, things should be pretty stable from here on out. Mudwater (Talk) 15:16, 7 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

Coordinating Table Formats edit

Is there a reason why the playoff table has a different format from the table containing the other bowl games? Could we just add columns for TV and Radio to make them the same, instead of squeezing the TV data into a column that's already doing triple duty (stadium / location / time)?

Chris (talk) 14:31, 17 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

@Vt-aoe: I think it's because those seven games -- the New Years Six and the championship game -- are all on ESPN. In my view that could be removed from the table, to match last year's. Mudwater (Talk) 15:53, 17 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
I've gone ahead and removed those. Mudwater (Talk) 07:51, 20 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
