Naming consistency edit

Why should Porto be spelled "FC Porto" and Benfica not "SL Benfica"? For consistency purposes, it should be either "Porto" and "Benfica" or "FC Porto" and "SL Benfica". Obviously this is not restricted to these two teams but to every other which also uses similar naming abbreviations. Parutakupiu (talk) 21:01, 2 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

Because when you refer to Porto you can talk about the city or the club, so when you want to talk about the club, you say FC Porto. With Benfica there's not that problem. When you say Benfica, you are refering to the club (if you want to talk about the parish of benfica you've to refer "parish of Benfica"). Of course you could say also SL Benfica. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rpo.castro (talkcontribs) 21:07, 2 June 2013 (UTC)Reply
There's no such confusion in the football competition articles for instance, where "Porto" and "Benfica" are used, because it's clear what they are referring to clubs. Here should be the same line of thought. Curiously though, since this final four actually took place in (the city of) Porto, there could be reasoning for some confusion, but honestly? Anyway, since the first-level article (CERH European League) lists the clubs with the abbreviations (FC, SL, etc.) I think we should then keep that naming. What do you think? I think it's better to use the abbreviations (FC, SL, etc.). A bot could do the work.Rpo.castro (talk) 23:19, 2 June 2013 (UTC)Reply
