Kevin McE I have no problems with using lastnames, not really sure how to phrase this to avoid the cliché, but I'm all open for rephrasing. Anyway, I think it is misrepresenting to say that Thor caught up. If you watch what happened, he contributed nothing until they caught up with Hesjedal. This was team tactics, and I will even assume that most riders would consider it insulting if they were accused of catching their own teammates under such circumstances. Insulting or not, he did catch up with him. It no longer says who chased, per your observation. From Cycling News live commentary "15:35:43 BST Up the road and Ryder is about to be caught by Hagen and Hushovd." From their stage report "Hesjedal continued his lone run to the line in the atrocious conditions, although Boasson Hagen, keen to grab another stage win, and his countryman Hushovd ... were hot on his heels" Kevin McE (talk) 21:14, 22 July 2011 (UTC)

Actually the Cycling News commentary is better from the mere fact that they chose to name Hagen first, and then Hushovd but the new wording is better indeed. The order however adds emphasize, I'm not feeling strongly enough about this to make it an edit war, but I would suggest something like the wording: "He was eventually caught by the two Norwegians Edvald Boasson Hagen (Sky) and Thor Hushovd, Hesjedals teammate." Alternatively one could simply write (Garmin-Ceavelo), but I think that's underremphasizing the same point. lead paragraph

Hi I came here knowing nothing about cycling, and I was disappointed to find such a baffling lead paragraph. It really needs a brief summary of what the ensuing information means, a cursory overview of the Tour de France event to which the article relates, and proper dates (including years). It is about the 2011 Tour: it can safely be assumed that all dates are 2011. Not sure how you would have navigated directly here rather than either of the more obvious target pages, Tour de France or 2011 Tour de France, which would probably answer most of your questions. But yeah, we probably should have something less perfunctory on the top of these articles, but they are essentially off-cuts of the main ones. Kevin McE (talk) 00:47, 24 July 2011 (UTC)

Neither this article nor its sister for the earlier stages has any references regarding the actual outcome of each stage. The references at the end of each day's section refer to the profile rather than the result. These references are therefore misplaced and should be moved forward to the end of the first sentence (if still appropriate) and supplemented with references from a reliable source covering the summary of the day's racing. -- Daemonic Kangaroo (talk) 05:55, 24 July 2011 (UTC)
