Thanks to Resolute for creating this child article of Slave Lake, Alberta. Any opposition to reflecting the type of fire in the article title? i.e., 2011 Slave Lake wildfire? The term "wildfire" is more specific than "fire" and reflects what type of fire occurred.
Also, is the "2011" in the article title necessary? Slave Lake wildfire (currently a redirect) would be sufficient to establish an identity of the event per Wikipedia:Naming conventions (events). The "2011" would only be necessary in the unlikely event that this natural tragedy would occur again. Hwy43 (talk) 19:52, 25 May 2011 (UTC)Reply
No issue with moving to the alternate title. However, I would keep the 2011 part. Partly because it has become a de facto standard for "disaster articles" to lead with the year, and partly because the town was nearly wiped out by another "Slave Lake fire" in 1968. I would say there is indeed a need to disambiguate by year. Incidentally, Slave Lake was saved in '68 by a change in the winds, quite the opposite of last weekend, I'd say. Haven't really looked through this, but here's the SRD final report on the fire and the "Flat Top Complex". Flat Top Complex– May 2012 (95 pages) PDF.
