Re-named or Merged? edit

This article needs to be re-named or merged with the 2008 food prices article. --Madchester (talk) 17:54, 25 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

I agree it could be re-named, perhaps to Global Rice Shortage Crisis or the like. But I disagree it should be merged with the 2008 food prices article (and it is already linked from a subsection there) because the Rice shortage is a major crisis in its own right: Merging it with 2007–2008 world food price crisis would probably cause that article to become too lengthy, prompting requests that a section on Rice shortage be spun off into its own article. Has now been renamed, disagree in principle to merge, merge only if this article does not grow beyond the three or four sections now present.KTo288 (talk) 07:51, 4 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Current Events tag? edit

While the article technically doesn't yet warrant a current events tag, it will if editors around the world feel free to frequently update the article with breaking developments. A mild Catch-22 is involved, in that daily updating by more than one editor may tend to happen only if the article is tagged as a "Current Event." Merged with Rice? edit

Conditionally, I'm OK with the article being merged with Rice, the reason I created the article in the first place is because of a surprising lack of explanation about the 'Rice shortage' crisis, in the article about Rice. If merged however, I strongly suggest that the section about the rice shortage be a significant subsection, and not just a few quick sentences about it. I disagree with a merge. This topic is important enough to warrant its own page, and more information will become available as the phenomenon progresses. Brisvegas 06:25, 10 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Merger with 'Rice' - my opinion edit

I think there should be an early reference on the 'Rice' page to a 'World food price rise' page (it will probably last longer than 2007-2008), and to any page about 'Rice shortage'. People will expect to see a reference to the shortage / price rise when they visit the 'Rice' page, but the subject is too large to be included on that page.

I favour the inclusion of 'Rice' as a heading under 'World food price rise', rather than having a separate page, to avoid duplication of discussion. If there are special factors involved for rice in particular, these can be given under the heading. PandaName (talk) 15:32, 11 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

I agree on merging with the rice page, since that's where I first looked when I was in search for this page. Iaberis (talk) 18:05, 27 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

freerice.com edit

Does freerice.com contribute to the rice shortage? This website should be discussed in the article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 208.122.87.33 (talk) 16:31, 16 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
