editThe page marks this race as being held in England, this is not untrue but F1 drivers compete as "British" not English/Scottish/Welsh and the title of the race is "British Grand Prix". Should this be edited? BMB YT 500000 (talk) 10:31, 27 September 2021 (UTC)
- I don't see the justification for the change. England is a perfectly valid location, and is more precise than saying (Great) Britain or the UK. SSSB (talk) 10:43, 27 September 2021 (UTC)
- Things don't take place in "The United Kingdom", or "Great Britain", they take place in the dependencies. Participant representations have nothing to do with it. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 10:45, 27 September 2021 (UTC)
- Sorry, but that’s just no true. It’s perfectly valid to state something takes placed in the United Kingdom.Tvx1 11:35, 27 September 2021 (UTC)
- It's also "perfectly valid" to say it takes place in England. See every article we have on a location (such as Silverstone) being in England. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 11:55, 27 September 2021 (UTC)
- Yes, but less appropriate in this contest. You actually claimed that United Kingdom was invalid.Tvx1 16:13, 27 September 2021 (UTC)
- Less appropriate? How? SSSB (talk) 16:19, 27 September 2021 (UTC)
- Because England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are otherwise not used in Formula One articles. Using it here would create unnecessary confusion.Tvx1 21:36, 28 September 2021 (UTC)

As is my original point, F1 use the "United Kingdom". If this was about football/rugby, then yes it would be England, but that is not the case here. BMB YT 500000 (talk) 13:49, 27 September 2021 (UTC)
- That doesn't suddenly make the track, and the location of Silverstone suddenly in the United Kingdom, it is in England, which is in the United Kingdom. United Kingdom and Great Britain are two different things, as well. Which of these two are you suggesting we use? Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 13:56, 27 September 2021 (UTC)
- What Formula One use is irrelevant. United Kingdom, Great Britian, Britian and England are all equally valid. I see no reason why we should prefer one over the other. SSSB (talk) 14:04, 27 September 2021 (UTC)
- Ok. Proposal: Keep England there, but put "United Kingdom" at the end. BMB YT 500000 (talk) 14:35, 27 September 2021 (UTC)
- Why? Most people know England better (or as well) than they know UK. SSSB (talk) 14:41, 27 September 2021 (UTC)
- Also, note how we deal with 2005 United States Grand Prix, which mentions the state, and not the United States. That item is particularly relevant as an featured article. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 15:12, 27 September 2021 (UTC)

England, while it may be relevant and understood, is not a sovereign state. Besides, saying "British Grand Prix" and then "England" can be confusing to those with limited knowledge of the whole EN/GB/UK thing. BMB YT 500000 (talk) 14:48, 27 September 2021 (UTC)
- You are conflicting two things here. We have a European Grand Prix as well, do we need to mention that Germany is in Europe? This race took place in Silverstone, which is in England. It being a sovereign state has nothing to do with its location. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 15:09, 27 September 2021 (UTC)
- Europe is not a country/nation, its a continent so your point is irrelevant. BMB YT 500000 (talk) 15:16, 27 September 2021 (UTC)
- Please indent your messages. You are suggesting that someone would be confused that the "British Grand Prix" was contested in England, but that the "European Grand Prix", or the "United States Grand Prix" are fine? Suggesting that "England, United Kingdom" is going to explain to someone that that means that is in Great Britain (which covers a different landmass) confuses me. The location of the circuit is in England, we don't need to explain that England is located in another country, the same way we don't have to comment that the state of Indiana is in the United States, or comment where Hong Kong is in an article about something taking place there. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 15:32, 27 September 2021 (UTC)

- Oh my. Right: French GP - France
- United States Grand Prix - United States
- Italian Grand Prix - Italy
- Japanese Grand Prix - Japan
- thus, British Grand Prix = Britain, not a country so we go UK BMB YT 500000 (talk) 15:37, 27 September 2021 (UTC)
- In the case of the 2005 United States Grand Prix we go Location: Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Speedway, Indiana (i.e. no mention of the USA because 99% of people know Indiana is in the USA) This is why I don't see the point of specifing UK instead of/in addition to England - 99% of people know that England is in the UK. SSSB (talk) 16:06, 27 September 2021 (UTC)
- Indeed, we DON'T mention the United States. Look at our articles for anything in England, such as Silverstone, Sussex, Manchester etc. Just to confirm, it IS a country. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 18:49, 27 September 2021 (UTC)
- I must say, there is a terribly inconsistent approach to this. Some articles do mention the United States, others don’t for instance. Arbitrarily picking an article one edition and claiming that is the conventions is incredibly short-sighted.Tvx1 21:34, 28 September 2021 (UTC)
- Fair enough, and sorry to be so nitpicky, but England is not an independent country. But, alright, I won t change it to UK. BMB YT 500000 (talk) 17:46, 28 September 2021 (UTC)
- No body is claiming it is a convention not to mention it. The point that there is no convention to mention the sovereign nation/independent country and there is no need to in cases such as this. SSSB (talk) 08:03, 29 September 2021 (UTC)
- Expect that there is that convention for all the other grands prix. For some unexplained reason United Stated and United Kingdom are treated as an exception. I really don't understand why it is so unacceptable to list US/UK in those articles.Tvx1 13:08, 29 September 2021 (UTC)
