Talk:2006 Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly election

Rv of anon users in lead/won section edit

The lead/won trends may change dramatically. I feel it is unnecessary to revert that value to reflect accurate values. The lead/won values may finally be updated as 'won' values. - Chez (Discuss / Email) • 08:24, 11 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Help needed edit

Can someone help updating ta:தமிழ்நாடு மாநில சட்டமன்றத் தேர்தல், 2006? -- Sundar \talk \contribs 09:04, 11 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Updation and Monitoring edit

As of now, results related to 66 constituencies have been updated and I guess 64 of them are accurate, as i've sourced all my updations. Pls verify the other updations. If you'd like to continue udating as and when the results are declared, you can use the Election commission of India Results page for official results.

And don't forget to look out for vandals. This page has seen a lot of vandalism today. I'll try to be back and update as much as possible. Happy Editing. Cheers. - Chez (Discuss / Email) • 10:59, 11 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Concerns reg accuracy of results edit

This is a concern reg the accuracy of results. For eg., The Hindu article notes the Winner in Thalli Consitutency to be T.Ramachandran, while Newindpress.com Article mentions the winner to be from BJP, which is not true as BJP drew a blank in 2006 Tamil Nadu State Elections. On the other hand, the Election commission of India results page declares the winner to be Nagaraja Reddy from CPI.

It is amazing that notable mainstream media information conflict with each other and the ECI results. - Chez (Discuss / Email) • 06:09, 12 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Finally... edit

Phew! The article looks better now. However, even though I tried my best to include accurate information and it would be great if someone double check the constituency-wise results for 2006. Cheers. Happy Editing. - Chez (Discuss / Email) • 04:28, 13 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

EVMs in the lead section edit

The lead talks about EVMs. I feel it should be written in a better way. For that, the EVM page has to be written well. ;) - Chez (Discuss / Email) • 06:05, 14 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Political Persuasions edit

There's nothing in this article to help one (who is not familiar with the politics in Tamil Nadu) to understand the significance of these elections. It would help me, anyway, to know which parties if any are considered left/right, progressive/reactionary/nationalist, etc. Pinkville 16:42, 23 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

That would be interesting. I'll try to add such info. But, beware that the parties of Tamil Nadu may not fall under these labels neatly. And the word "nationalist" has a particular meaning here. In India, usually, the [word] "nation" is identified with the country itself and hence DMK, AIADMK, etc., that stand for regionalism and federalism are not termed "nationalist". I'm not sure if it's the case else where. -- Sundar \talk \contribs 06:15, 24 May 2006 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, it's particularly because terms like "nationalist" have specific connotations in this context that it would be interesting to have some brief indication of the political parties' orientations... Thanks. Pinkville 14:52, 24 May 2006 (UTC)Reply
Well, I bite the bait. Let me try to add some info by this weekend. -- Sundar \talk \contribs 06:48, 25 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Not sure where to incorporate the details; dumping here for now. Be warned that it's completely subjective and portions of it can be used in the article ONLY after getting reliable external citations. -- Sundar \talk \contribs 11:37, 29 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

DMK Alliance AIADMK Alliance
  • AIADMK - a party that split from the DMK sharing most of its policies; has a pro-poor image due to a slew of welfare actions initiated by its founder, MGR.
  • Congress - a "national" (meaning All-India) party which is founded on a centre-left ideology of religious secularism and a mild socialism in economic issues; the centre of power rests with "the high-command" which in practice is the leader of the party; regional leaders usually do not usually assert themselves.
  • MDMK - a party that broke away from the DMK and hence shares most of its policies; its leader, Vaiko, is known to be sympathetic to the cause of Tamil Eelam.
  • PMK - has its origins in Vanniyar Sangam, an organisation for the welfare of the Vanniar caste; has expressed a wish to bifurcate Tamil Nadu into a northern and a southern half (allegedly) in order to secure power in the northern half which has a significant presence of Vanniyars; it's taking up the cause of Tamil language in recent times.
  • INL
  • IUML - a party that stands for the rights and causes of Muslims
  • MMK

All India Educated Unemployed Youth Party edit

In 2004 the All India Educated Unemployed Youth Party contested on the RLD symbol in TN. Is it possible that the results of RLD in this election are those of this party? --Soman 12:39, 7 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:DMK logo 2006 04 25.PNG edit

Image:DMK logo 2006 04 25.PNG is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion.
