Anthem good or bad? edit

The Australian National Anthem, Advance Australia Fair, was sung by both Human Nature and Julie Anthony. The performance is still regarded by many worldwide as the greatest rendition of a National Anthem at any Olympic Ceremony.

And yet Advance Australia Fair#Criticisms says:

The Sydney 2000 Olympic Opening Ceremony highlighted the fact that most of the large audience was unfamiliar with the second verse of the anthem, sung by Julie Anthony (the first verse was sung by Human Nature).

So was it a god or bad rendition? Timrollpickering 15:57, 27 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

I don't think those are contradictory statements. A song can be well sung, but the words unfamiliar to those who hear it. Incidentally, that the second verse isn't well known is a charge that can also be levied at God Save the Queen.

And Julie Anthony's the best lady to sing it. Katana Geldar 10:09, 2 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Musical Accompaniement of Ceremony edit

In the section of the Olympic Marching Band it mentions that the Band was the only music "made" live, and that all the rest, (eg the tap shoe noises) was pre-recorded. What about the orchestra which accompanied the 2nd Verse of the Nat. Anthem and other items? Can this be clarified please? 122.49.154.187 (talk) 03:56, 3 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Orchestra miming incident. edit

Shouldn't there be a section on the controversial usage of pre-recorded tape used to? After all, a such section exists for the Beijing opening ceremony, that it would only be appropriate to include it here. Small correction to Parade of Nations section edit

I have edited the part about Greece's placement in the Parade of Nations. Greece did not enter first because it was due to host the next Summer Games, but by virtue of its status as "birthplace of the Games." KyrieEleison (talk) 08:53, 30 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Merger proposal edit

I propose to merge The Games of the XXVII Olympiad: Official Music from the Opening Ceremony into 2000 Summer Olympics opening ceremony. I think that it doesn't make sence to expand the content in the CD article and would be better to include the information under the Music section of the ceremony page. I don't believe it will cause problems as far as article size, and it may be preferred to document the composers and artists there rather than under each section of the proceedings. Anthem credits edit

I'm surprised I'm seeing all these users persistently adding unsourced credits for orchestral and choral arrangements of the National Anthem. Where is the citation for this? Jalen Folf (talk) 01:41, 12 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

The unsourced credits were correct. I've gone and done some research and David Stanhope did do the arrangements of the national anthem for the Sydney Olympics Opening Ceremony. I don't have a copy of the CD, which would clear it up definitely, but I did find Stanhope's own site at the time and a industry magazine which gave this review:

Spare a thought for the composers, unsung heroes that they are....David Stanhope managed to make the Australian National Anthem sound like a new and exciting creation – while keeping it aligned with its traditional sound.

I've found that not everyone knows how Wikipedia works.
While I'm here, is the page now up to a B standard? Lama12 (talk) 11:55, 12 February 2021 (UTC)Reply
Also confirmed in the Olympic Opening Ceremony Book. Lama12 (talk) 00:22, 13 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

Italics edit

Why is the article name in italics? How do we get rid of that? None of the other Olympic opening ceremonies seem to be. StAnselm (talk) 03:49, 29 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
