Missing pictures

Hey, where did all the pictures go? This page is pretty useless without them. Astronaut 02:48, 26 May 2007 (UTC)

They have all been mass deleted. Because of this, I have made a proposal (not set in stone) at Talk:Euro coins to merge all the denomination articles together, because it is very unlikely that the un-free images will ever be able to return. --tgheretford (talk) 14:16, 27 May 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Latvian 1 euro coin design.JPG

Image:Latvian 1 euro coin design.JPG is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 22:50, 5 June 2007 (UTC)

Greek 1 euro coin

Who deleted the Greek 1 euro coin? I mean, Greece has a one Euro coin. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.210.228.21 (talk) 18:36, 6 November 2007 (UTC)

Greek

You forgot the Greek euro coin Thanks —Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.210.99.53 (talk) 17:14, 7 November 2007 (UTC)

Banknote?

Does anyone know why these are only available as a coin and not as a banknote? I can't even imagine people walking around with 5 or more large coins like that in their pockets. And while we are on the subject, what is the point of the 0.02 coin? Surely a waste of minting resources and metal, right? If you have a 0.01 and a 0.05 coin, the 0.02 is just silly. 70.20.228.140 (talk) 21:00, 1 January 2008 (UTC)

belgium

please someone add the 2008 belgium design --SquallLeonhart_ITA (talk) 09:42, 9 February 2008 (UTC)

Images were already the new designs in the "National sides" section, instead I added the old design images to the "Former designs" section. Miguel.mateo (talk) 00:37, 11 February 2008 (UTC)

New Design ...

I personally think is too much, all that information is on the respective pages of the issuing countries, now the article is extensively large, with way too many white spaces. I personally like it the way it used to be before. Any comments? Miguel.mateo (talk) 01:20, 27 April 2008 (UTC)

I agree, this look is not good, the readability of the article has gone way down. It might be helpful if the anon IP would a) discuss things before making changes and b) perhaps register as a user. Until there is a consensus on change, I'm reverting to the previous version.
Also, the changes made by the anon IP might be ok for those very interested in numismatics, but this is a general purpose encyclopedia and having all the national side in the one table makes it easy to see them at a glance. Having to scroll through them all is not very readable. This Issues table is good but again, it should not be at the top of the article. The comparison with the €2 commemorative coins is not valid, there are (currently) 18 national sides, there are many more commemorative coins with more issued every year, so it does not lend itself to the same format. Image copyright problem with Image:Belgium euro s02 100.jpg

The image Image:Belgium euro s02 100.jpg is used in this article under a claim of fair use, but it does not have an adequate explanation for why it meets the requirements for such images when used here. In particular, for each page the image is used on, it must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for the use in this article.
  • That this article is linked to from the image description page.

The following images also have this problem:

Improvements

How could we improve this? Perhaps bringing in more general data, discuss the design of each national side, the change in the common side, the design process (other designs?), proposals for replacement with a note? I think we should try to get more data into this article at least, looks a bit thin and gallery-ish.- J Logan t: 20:53, 10 August 2008 (UTC)

Your changes are an improvement, one minor thing is that in the gallery, all the coin images were the same size but in the table they are not when there is 2 or more images, e.g. Belgium and the Vatican. The Vatican is already on series 3, Pope Benedict is 81 and in a few years, when shuffles off, there will be another Sede Vacante coin, then a new pope coin, making 5 images. That really won't fit in the table. Perhaps a column for each coin Series, e.g. Column 1 description, Column 2 Series 1, Column 3 Series 2, Column 4 series 5, etc. Like so:

table hidden in editor note, coin images copyright

Let me know what you think. Snappy56 (talk) 12:27, 13 August 2008 (UTC)

I do like what both of you have been doing, let's agree in the format since the other articles may need to change as well usign the same one. I agree with the suggestion of Snappy56, although I can easily see that we will run out of collumns some day. In the mean while, I would also suggest to top allign the descriptions of the coins. Thanks, Miguel.mateo (talk) 13:24, 13 August 2008 (UTC)
I would also suggest to create a new info box, removing the information not needed like the obverse ... etc. Miguel.mateo (talk) 13:26, 13 August 2008 (UTC)
Regarding separate cols, I think that shuffles too much information over, only the Vatican is on series three which leaves huge gaps next to most who haven't got past series 1. Which is why I just reduced the size when it is two and had a second level for three (When PB dies, hopefully they wont make a new design just while they are talking - purely a money spinner me thinks - but we already have a space for one there. An alternative would be to have the three cols, but have the text span into empty spaces;

table hidden in editor note, coin images copyright

And Miguel.mateo, that is what I was hoping, get the format sorted here before it is exported to the other pages. So lets give some time for people to sort out all the bugs then we can copy the style over. As for the infobox, all we need is for the fields to not appear if there is no data in it (I have posted a request on the infobox's talkpage)- JLogant: 15:15, 13 August 2008 (UTC)
I woulnd't mind this alternative either, adding enough prose in the vatican area will make the text to expand down further leaving less blank space in the description area, after all we will have to cover four coins, so a long decription can be easily written. Still think that top alligning all texts looks definitely better. Miguel.mateo (talk) 23:59, 13 August 2008 (UTC)
Done, finally. Other comments on page design before it is exported?- J.Logan`t: 12:28, 12 September 2008 (UTC)
