tommy john's career ERA was not 3.16, but in fact 3.34. counting only his stats with new york, tommy john's yankee ERA was a slightly higher 3.59. (http://www.baseball-reference.com/j/johnto01.shtml). therefore, the comment in the trivia section that a "John 3:16" sign was a reference to tommy john is completely false. it was almost certainly a reference to the bible verse, which is often found on signs at sports events (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_3:16).
