ECI mix up
editThe ECI analysis report has mixed up 1989 by elections with 1989 full elections. For Madurai east and Marungapuri the analysis lists unified ADMK candidates as winners. This happened in March 1989 by elections after the Janaki and JJ factions united together .[1]. :-)--Sodabottle (talk) 07:24, 19 December 2009 (UTC)
- spoke too soon. for those two constituencies no elections were conducted in jan 89 due to "technical reasons". seats remained vacant till march 89, when by elections were conducted. [2]--Sodabottle (talk) 07:27, 19 December 2009 (UTC)

why Janaki was dismissed
editany reason other than Rajiv didnt like her (because his allies in TN didnt like her). --CarTick 00:54, 1 January 2010 (UTC)
- in jan88, there was a big succession struggle in admk legislative party. nedunchelian was caretaker cm then. under mgr there were two goshties - rmv and jj. rmv tried to put janaki as cm with him as puppet master. (janaki was just figurehead). older leaders like nedunchelian, SDS etc were on that side. younger leaders like KKSSR, thirunavukkarasar were on JJs side. when Janaki was made cm, jj faction eloped with supporting mlas to north india and went underground, so that rmv cannot poach them. there was high drama and when janaki won the confidence motion (by voice vote i think), there was again high drama and horse trading n in the house.all mlas were jumping from one faction to another frequently. the legitimacy of the new govt was tarnished in the beginning itself. tn congress was leaning toward jj and suggested to rajiv, it was right time for "kamaraj aatchi" to return (sigh).. so rajiv dismissed the govt. congress itself had moopanar goshti, vazhapadi goshti, sivaji goshti etc. dunno which one came up with the plan to dismiss the govt. this was before the SR Bommai v Union of India, so dismissal could be done very easily.--Sodabottle (talk) 04:57, 1 January 2010 (UTC)
- the assembly speaker ph pandian was of janaki faction. i think he was accused of rigging the proceedings so that janaki could win the confidence motion. --Sodabottle (talk) 05:17, 1 January 2010 (UTC)
- interesting. i will try to add this information. --CarTick 15:03, 1 January 2010 (UTC)
