This looks an interesting article and, on a cursory inspection, close to meeting the Good Article criteria already. I will start my review shortly. simongraham (talk) 13:41, 18 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

Comments

edit
  • Overall, the standard of the article is high.
  • It is of substantial length, with 1,166 words of readable prose.
  • The lead is appropriately long at 142 words. The second paragraph is very short and so the lead could be combined into one paragraph, which could make it easier for readers using mobile devices.
  • Authorship is 72.8% from the nominator with contributions from 7 other editors.
  • It is currently assessed as a B class article

Criteria

edit

The six good article criteria:

  1. It is reasonable well written.
    the prose is clear, concise, and understandable to an appropriately broad audience; spelling and grammar are correct;
    • The writing is clear and appropriate.
    • Suggest adding a comma in front of "and" in "Besides Tabai, opposition member Teburoro Tito received 42.7% of the vote and Tabai's vice-president Teatao Teannakireceived 7.2%".
    • Consider "towards" rather than "toward" in "the 1978 election counted toward his term limit".
    • I can see no other obvious spelling or grammar errors.
    it complies with the Manual of Style guidelines for lead, layout and word choice.
    • It seems to comply with the Manuals of Style.
  2. It is factually accurate and verifiable.
    it contains a reference section, presented in accordance with the layout style guideline;
    • A reference section is included, with sources listed.
    • There seems to be a CS1 maintenance tag attached to the two articles by Bataua. I do not feel this is significant but it may raise issues with accessibility.
    all inline citations are from reliable sources;
    • Somoza 2001 is peer-reviewed, Van Trease 1993 is from a credible publisher and Pacific Islands Monthly seems a reputable source.
    it contains no original research;
    • "A motion of no confidence was raised against Tabai, but it failed with 15 members of parliament supporting it and 19 against I" is supported by p. 63 rather than p.62 of Van Trease 1993. Van Trease 1993, p. 62 supports the preceding statements.
    • "Please check the claims attributed to Van Trease 1993, p. 70.
    • All other relevant statements have inline citations.
    • Spot checks confirm that all the sources discuss the topic.
    it contains no copyright violations nor plagiarism;
    • Earwig gives a 13.8% chance of copyright violation, which means it is unlikely. The main overlap with the top matches seems to be the titles of books.
  3. It is broad in its coverage
    it addresses the main aspects of the topic.
    • The article is compliant.
    it stays focused on the topic without going into unnecessary detail (see summary style).
    • The article is compliant.
  4. It has a neutral point of view.
    it represents viewpoints fairly and without editorial bias, giving due weight to different points of view.
    • The article seems balanced and projects no political stance.
  5. It is stable.
    it does not change significantly from day to day because of any ongoing edit war or content dispute.
    • There is no evidence of edit wars.
  6. It is illustrated by images and other media, where possible and appropriate.
    images are tagged with their copyright statuses, and valid fair use rationales are provided for non-free content;
    • Ieremia Tabai (cropped).png, Teatao Teannaki 2014 (cropped).jpg have licenses from the Taiwan Ministry of Foreign Affairs that appear to be appropriate.
    • Teburoro Tito (cropped).jpg and 1987 Kiribati presidential election margin of victory map.svg have appropriate CC licenses.
    • Coat of arms of Kiribati.svg has an appropriate PD tag.
    images are relevant to the topic, and have suitable captions.
    • The images are appropriate. Although not a GA criteria, suggest adding ALT text for accessibility.

@Thebiguglyalien: Thank you for an interesting article. Please take a look at my comments above and ping me when you would like me to take another look. simongraham (talk) 19:05, 18 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

simongraham, you didn't specify what the issue was with p.70, so I had to go through all of them and I was able to verify each one. The two Bataua sources should be distinguishable on the reader's end through the letters attached to the years, but the CS1 aspects are a little beyond my knowledge of how the citations work. I've made all other suggested changes. Thebiguglyalien (talk) 22:07, 18 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thebiguglyalien, that looks good to me. Thank you for all your work. I believe that this article now meets the criteria to be a Good Article. Although there is no QPQ in GAR, I would appreciate it if you were able to review any of my nominations.
