The claim "Wolfpack did not assure themselves of a tournament bid until they upset Virginia in the championship game of the ACC tournament" perpetuates a false myth. 1983 Selection Committee Chair Dave Gavitt and Selection Committee member Vic Bubas have both stated NCSU was definitely in the tournament regardless of who won the ACC Championship game.
