Brabham to Repco-Brabham

I have changed the Brabham entries in the article to Repco-Brabham. This is supported by

• The referenced pages from Racing Car News, The Advertiser, Australian Motor Racing Annual and A History of Australian Motor Sport all of which refer to the cars as Repco Brabhams
• The ADC winners list at CAMS Online Manual of Motor Sport > About CAMS > Titles - CAMS Gold Star
• The Repco advertisement on page 15 of the Official Souvenir programme, Mallala Motor Races, Monday 12 October 1964 which states that “The practical driving experience of brilliant Jack Braham, twice world champion and three times winner of the Australian Grand Prix, has been combined with the manufacturing know-how and resources of Repco to build a series of international formula and sports racing cars known as Repco-Brabhams.”
• A Repco-Brabham advertisement which can be seen here
• David Hodges, A-Z of Formula Racing Cars, 1990, page 32 which states that “Through to the end of the 1960s the cars were known as Repco Brabhams…”
• The same page of the same publication which quotes from the brochure for the 1965 models as follows “Brabham Racing Developments announce the following range of three “Repco” Brabham single seat racing cars…” GTHO (talk) 08:54, 22 October 2009 (UTC)

You can find much recent evidence that for the last decade Ferrari open wheelers should be refered to as Marlboro Ferraris, but the consistent convention the world over is to refer to such cars after the manufacturer. Can you explain why this should be different in this example?

In short, why should Repco Brabham be given an exemption not given to any other open wheeler of the constructor era, outside of North America? --Falcadore (talk) 09:32, 22 October 2009 (UTC)

Additional: precedent is already set in Wikipedia for these exact cars, from such articles as 1965 Formula One season, related Grand Prix articles, both proceeding and succeeding years. I couldn't find any reference to the cars of Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro being officially Marlboro Ferraris at www.ferrari.com or anywhere else for that matter, so I'll set that one aside. But I notice that the Iso-Marlboro tag is used for the Frank Williams F1 cars at 1973 Formula One season. But back to the Repco-Brabham subject itself. I'm not arguing that the F1 cars were all Repco-Brabhams as I don't have specific references to support that. What I'm saying is that, during the period from 1962 to 1968, almost all contemporary references to the cars in Australia call them Repco-Brabhams. Jack himself even calls them Repco Brabhams in "The Jack Brabham story / Jack Brabham with Doug Nye" and how much of that was due to technical collaboration (as aluded to in the Repco ads) and how much was just sponsorship I simply don't know. The use of the Repco-Brabham name by CAMS and in official sales brochures and the fitting of Repco Brabham badges to the cars (even the Climax engined cars) makes the omission of the Repco name, in my view, a distortion of history.GTHO (talk) 22:40, 23 October 2009 (UTC)

Similarly leaving aside that as you identified the team as Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro, that you knew exactly what I was talking about, what then is the difference between a Repco Brabham BT4 and a Brabham BT4? --Falcadore (talk) 05:29, 24 October 2009 (UTC)

Mostly likely the same differences as between the Holden Astra & the Vauxhall Astra - badges and marketing. But that's assuming that the BT4 was actually sold in some markets without the full Repco-Brabham name. David Hodges in A-Z of Formula Racing Cars seems to be saying that they would not have been.
