1st Beatle cover band in America

I think I was in the first Beatles cover band in America in 1963 and 1964 called the Baytown Beatles from Baytown, TX. I was 11 years old and auditioned for the part of John Lennon in a band that played kiddie shows on Saturdays throughout Houston and surrounding area. Back then parents dropped their kids off for hours to watch cartoons, comedies like the 3 Stooges, then a movie. I started playing guitar when I was 9, somehow got a bootleg Beatles album with sheet music in 1963, and learned all the songs. After many rehearsals, we started playing the kiddie shows every Saturday, starting in late 1963 and continued, I think, until my Mother died in November 1964 and I moved to Mississippi to live with my Aunt and Uncle. It was wild; girls were screaming like we were the real Beatles and we could barely hear ourselves play! At 72, I am a retired Geologist and now live in Chattanooga, TN, and still play in a Rock & Roll cover band. I have a newspaper article (Meet Two Baytown Beatles) from March 1,1964 with me and another Baytown Beatle promoting our performance at a local theater. 74.205.133.91 (talk) 04:23, 21 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
