"though both Farina and Parsons had competed at future World Championship races before the creation of the championship," Should future be past, or before be after, and championship be Championship?

It's intended to mean that both Farina and Parsons had competed at events which would, in the future, become World Championship races (e.g. Parsons had competed in the 1949 Indianapolis 500 and Farina had competed in the 1948 Monaco Grand Prix). I agree the wording is somewhat ambiguous. Regarding the capitalisation of "championship", when the word is written as part of "World Championship" or "Drivers' Championship", it's usually capitalised, when it's written as "the championship", it varies from article to article.
