Talk:1934 FIFA World Cup squads

Latest comment: 10 years ago by 187.252.64.185 in topic Rosters' deadline

I see that the names of all players have family names first and then the first name. Why? It's much better to have it the other way around.

I have converted it to standard format. - Darwinek 09:16, 30 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hungary Lineup edit

The final version now from the 1934 Hungarian Sports newspapers (Nemzeti Sport & Sporthírlap): The original squad of Hungary was the following: Goalkeepers: József Háda, Antal Szabó Defenders: József Vágó, László Sternberg, Gyula Futó, Rezső Rozgonyi Midfielders: Antal Szalay, István Palotás, György Szűcs, János Moré, Gyula Lázár, János Dudás Strikers: Imre Markos, István Tamássy, István Avar, Jenő Vincze, Pál Teleki, Géza Toldi, Tibor Kemény, Gábor P. Szabó, György Sárosi, József Turay

On the last day of nomination the following changes were made because of the supporters' and journalists' complains: Somlai* replacing János Móré Gyula Polgár replacing József Turay Sándor Bíró replacing Rezső Rozgonyi

Thus the final, actually travelling squad became the following: Goalkeepers: József Háda, Antal Szabó Defenders: József Vágó, László Sternberg, Gyula Futó, Sándor Bíró Midfielders: Antal Szalay, István Palotás, György Szűcs, Somlay (!!!), Gyula Lázár, János Dudás Strikers: Imre Markos, István Tamássy, István Avar, Jenő Vincze, Pál Teleki, Géza Toldi, Tibor Kemény, Gábor P. Szabó, György Sárosi, Gyula Polgár (Sárosi was injured, Polgár had university exams so they both arrived later then the rest of the team!)

Do you know of an online source for this? --ChaChaFut 06:26, 9 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Unfortunately no, which is the reason I posted this here. Most of the information for this team online is incorrect. This information is courtesy of User Gabute & friends. Libro0 20:12, 9 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Somlay was a player of Kispest. I will check for his first name within a few days. --Gabute 20:12, 9 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
I added the full name of Rezső Somlai. Anyway, he was born as Rezső Stolpart in 1911 and died in 1983. --Gabute 20:47, 12 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

I need some clarification about one point, in every where, where I looked, including documents of the IFFHS,shows that the player with last name Vagó is János Vagó-Vanicsek (Playing for Debreceni Bocksai FC) and not József Vagó

Egyptian spelling variations edit

Since the translation of the names may vary, for example Mustafa, Mostafa, Mustapha, Mostapha, Moustafa, etc. I will list this roster here. Moustafa Kamel Mansour, Ali El-Sayed Kaf, Hamedo Charlie, Hassan Ahmed El-Far, Ismail Rafaat, Hassan Ragab, Mohamed Latif, Moukhtar El-Tetch, Moustafa Kamel Taha, Abdel Rahman Fawzy, Mohamed Hassan, Aziz Fahmy, Hafez Kaseb, Hani Labib Mahmoud, Mahmoud Ismail El-Nigero, Ibrahim Ahmed Halim, Kamel Masoud, Mohamed Farid Bakhati, Yaquot El-Soury, Abdel Hamid Ibrahim, Ali Hussein Abdel Shafi, Wagih El-Kashef. Italian Understand with dates of birth of the Italian football players

Luigi Allemandi DF 08.11.1903 Most likely date of birth November, 8 In Wikipedia - in the English version it is written November, 18 [2] 08.11.1903 [3] 18.11.1903 (At Englishmen everywhere it is written November, 18)

On the basic site of a command(team) of Italy http://www.figc.it/ It is a modern initial page, earlier on a site was more information, or to me now in new design of her(it) to not find The old version approximately up to an autumn of 2006 [4] [5] In the card of the player it is written 0/0/1903 [6] So write when exact date of birth is not known

In the Internet in other places it is written November, 8 [7] 08.11.1903 [8] 08.11.1903 [9] After a match 110 the structure of a command(team) is given Allemandi Luigi (Ambrosiana – Inter) 08.11.1903 [10] 08.11.1903

Pietro Arcari (ARCARI III) FW 02.12.1909

On the basic site of a command(team) of Italy http://www.figc.it/ [11] In the card of the player it is written 01.01.1909

[12] In the card of the player it is written Arcari Pietro Sante (III) (Milan) 02.12.1909

On all German sites there is other date taken from here [13] 03.12.1908

I have chosen the data from the first site

Armando Castellazzi MF 07.10.1904

[14] - MF Armando Castellazzi 7 October 1904 Ambrosiana-Inter [15] Castellazzi Armando (Ambrosiana – Inter) 07.10.1904 [16] 07.10.1904

Earlier on a site of modular Italy, month of birth - February was written On some sites too it is written - February [17] 07.02.1904 [18] 07.02.1904 [19] 07.02.1904

Month of birth is not clear

Giuseppe Cavanna GK 18.11.1905

On the basic site of a command(team) of Italy http://www.figc.it/nazionali/ [20] In the card of the player it is written 18.11.1905

[21] In the card of the player it is written Cavanna Giuseppe (Napoli) 18.09.1905 - - - GK

Gianpiero Combi GK 20.11.1902 [22] Giampiero Combi [23] Gianpiero Combi

Attilio Ferraris (FERRARIS IV) MF 26.03.1904

[24] After a match 110 the structure of a command(team) is given Ferraris Attilio (IV) (Roma) 26.04.1904 (Most likely a typing error, wanted to write 26.03)

In Wikipedia and on a site of a command(team) of Italy it is written 26.03.1904 [25] 26.03.1904 [26] 26.03.1904 [27] 26.03.1904

But on the Italian pages about this player write other date of birth 23.06.1904 [28] 23.06.1904 [29] 23.06.1904 [30] 23.06.1904

It is the most difficult moment, I am not sure in that where is more correctly written

Mario Pizziolo MF 08.12.1909

[31] 07.12.1909

[32] 08.12.1909 [33] Pizziolo Mario (I) (Fiorentina) 08.12.1909

[34] 0/0/1909

7 or 8 December  ?

Angelo Schiavio FW 15.10.1905 In Wikipedia write month of birth - May [35] 15.05.1905 [36] 15.05.1905

On other sites - October http://www.figc.it/club_italia/html/schiavio.htm 15.10.1905 [37] 15.10.1905 [38] 15.10.1905 Unique about whom I have found the information in a new format of this site [39] 15.10.1905

Here another too is written – 10.05 [40] 10.05.1905 [41] Schiavio Angelo (Bologna) 10.05.1905 [42] 10.05.1905

Absolutely not clearly where there is a date of birth of the player more correctly

Enrique Lucas “Indio” Guaita Gonzalez FW 11.07.1910

[43] 11.07.1910 [44] Guaita Enrique (Roma) 15.07.1910 In all Russian books it is written 15.07.1910 As in the English version of Russian page about the player [45]

[46] 0/0/1910 So write ( 0/0/ ) when exact date is not established

Hungary Squad #2 edit

I beleive, one change is still needed in the Hungarian squad. Vanicsek, János and Vágó, József are exactly the same persons. József Vágó (birth name is Vanicsek) was a player of Bocskay Debrecen, and he played 13 games for Hungary between 1934 and 1937. So he should remain in the list. While János Vanicsek was the coach of Padova at this time: - [47] - [48]

He was not a member of the Hungarian national team of course! --gabute 07:56, 29 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Well, maybe he was a member of the staff... a co-trainer or something... here he's mentioned, here not. What to do? --necronudist 09:09, 29 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Luis Marín/Luis Martín controversy edit

Xavier Martín (talk · contribs) think that Spanish Luis Marín Sabater could be the "Luis Martín" of the list.

  • Here you can see there was no Luis Marín/Luis Martín playing for Athletic Bilbao on 1933-34 season. The one who goes closer is Luis Uribe whose name was Luis María de Uribe Echevarría... not so close however...
  • Luis Marín Sabater played the 1933-34 season for Athletic de Madrid, a Segunda División team... it's quite unlikely his call up. Indeed Athletic de Madrid can be easily confused (especially in our days) with Athletic Bilbao...
  • Here isn't cited any Luis Marín/Luis Martín.
  • Here is cited a Luis Marín (Sabater) and not a Luis Martín, but the link doesn't seem so reliable.

Any news? Any solution? Please investigate if you can! Thanks --necronudist (talk) 09:54, 27 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

During 1930s it is Athletic de Madrid, but who did the club section of the list? Matthew_hk tc 11:40, 27 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
Don't know...However this player is a real mystery... --necronudist (talk) 12:45, 27 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

He was Luis Marin, from Atlético de Madrid. He was a pre selected player. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.244.192.36 (talk) 21:33, 19 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

MF Gunnar Jansson Source Libro0 (talk) 08:31, 11 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Don't know how reliable is that website.... --necronudist (talk) 12:10, 11 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

You might be right. This page and this page has a game report showing him as scoring a goal and listed in the forwards position in the lineup. Libro0 (talk) 04:54, 12 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Photos edit

I would like to suggest mini squad photos above each roster. Anyone have any thoughts on this? Libro0 (talk) 03:18, 20 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Rosters' deadline edit

Does anybody knows what was the deadline for sending rosters to FIFA? (I think it would be a good addition to squads articles, however...) --necronudist (talk) 22:08, 8 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
