dubious voter turnout edit

How can the voter turnout be more than 95 % when there were not much more than half the votes of the previous election cast in this one? It seems that voter turnout slipped strongly in these elections. --Maxl (talk) 10:12, 6 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

I'd imagine there may have been a change in the electoral system that disenfranchised a lot of voters that had been able to vote in 1900. I will check the book again this evening. Number 57 10:35, 6 November 2014 (UTC)Reply
OK, the answer is that the 1900 election was held using a system whereby voters could vote for multiple candidates (the number of registered voters was 1,472,953, but just over 2m votes were cast). This election was held using a one vote per voter system, so the number of votes cast fell to just over 1m. Number 57 08:27, 7 November 2014 (UTC)Reply
