New Article from German Wikipedia

edit

I am busy translating this article as well as another from the German Wikipedia. Translating help would be beneficial as my German is rusty. Please do not try rewording if you do not understand German as the Google translator does make some funny sentences. Heres the Deutsch article: http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magdeburgisches_Husaren-Regiment_Nr._10 I will return to correct the many mistakes. As a new article and being originally in German there are many issues still. Be patient please. 172.56.11.89 (talk) 13:50, 30 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

The article is very notable and that is the reason for brining it over from the German wikipedia. It was a few hours old and nominated for deletion. It takes time to translate, repair the links to point to english equivalents and fix references as they edit wikipedia a bit different. I also have to do some research as some cultural issues do not directly translate with a literal translation. I must reword sentences so english speakers do not think it is gibberish. It all takes time and my German could be better but given time it will become a good article. Thanks for your patience and understanding. 172.56.11.89 (talk) 00:28, 31 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

I have done a complete re-translation, which I think has cleared up, certainly the bulk of the problems with the old translation. My German isn't perfect, but I think it's pretty good. I still haven't fixed the "bibliography," which was evidently attacked by the Google translation system, but I hope to get to it. I did re-translate the names of the commanders, which Google had often turned into English words. Wallace McDonald (talk) 05:47, 21 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

Looking good - keep up the good work. Stlwart111 06:14, 21 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

I've now revised the bibliography, and also cleaned up the links some. Wallace McDonald (talk) 05:47, 22 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

Uniform cap

edit

I was called out for using "kolpak" as a name for the red attachment on top of the regiment's cap. The cap seems clearly to be what was usually called a "busby" in English, judging from the illustration, but I don't know what to call the red braid affair on top of it. The German article calls it a "kolpak," so that's the name I used. I've changed the reference to call the cap a busby and describe the hanging as a kolpak, but without a link. Somebody who's more up in uniforms than I am may be able to correct this. Wallace McDonald (talk) 13:58, 28 September 2014 (UTC)Reply
