南山 vs. Nanshan

edit

Some edit warring is going on, so I felt like we needed to put this in discussion. The reason I redirected this to Nanshan is because these two pages are virtually the same. Imo, that is really stupid: having two pages that are the same. It's like having two separate pages for USA and United States of America. I think that this page should redirect to Nanshan. —ˈtɒdləˈtɒdɪ(Toddlertoddy) 23:15, 14 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

If you'll read the history for Nanshan - it was basically copied from 南山, then 南山 was turned into a redirect, without any discussion. The reason 南山 shouldn't redirect to Nanshan is because Nanshan isn't the only English transliteration for 南山. See this: Wikipedia:WikiProject Disambiguation/CJKV task force. --Tesscass (talk) 18:20, 15 August 2011 (UTC)Reply
However, under no circumstances should Nanshan redirect to 南山. This is the English Wikipedia; if a user types a word used in English (even if it is a transliteration of a foreign term) into the search bar, they should be taken to a page with an English term in the title. If the Nanshan disambiguation page is incorrect or incomplete, please fix it, but don't redirect it to a term that is incomprehensible to most users of the encyclopedia. --R'n'B (call me Russ) 16:11, 16 August 2011 (UTC)Reply
Separate dabs for separate titles seems fine here, despite the overlap. It's more akin to having USA (disambiguation) and United States (disambiguation). It best serves the readership. -- JHunterJ (talk) 19:14, 11 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
I'm a bit uncomfortable with having this page for non-Latin text at all, and wondering if it should go to AfD. Better, IMO, would be to just stick with pages for the transliteration and leave it at that. We really don't need to be linking every possible term in every possible alphabet. Or has this already been discussed somewhere? --Elonka 17:38, 4 March 2012 (UTC)Reply
My first impression of this DAB is confusion (ambiguousness) due to the non-Latin, and would be in favour of an AfD. Widefox (talk) 11:16, 9 March 2012 (UTC)Reply
