Capitalization/notation issues edit

In the technical literature, there's a difference between lower-case delta (33 or 36) S and upper-case Delta (33 or 36) S; see S Ono, 2017 Ann. Rev. Earth Planet. Sci., vol 45 pp 301-329, in particular section 2.3 there. I'm not yet suggesting this be inserted into this article (I'm still working on understanding it all), but there is the odd issue of what looks like automatic capitalization: the talk page as I edit it now says "Editing Talk:(capital)Delta34S", despite the article title using lower-case delta, and the DYK infoboxes at the top using capitals some and lower-case some. This seems potentially confusing to a reader, compounded with a possibility for filename collision, should both lower-case delta etc. and capital Delta etc. each get their own Wikipedia pages. Hey BSVulturis; in truth, I'm not sure what the technical standards are regarding capitalization but it was my understanding that the lowercase delta is the correct way to represent this ratio. As to why it's represented this way on Wikipedia, I believe it has to do with technical restrictions for Wikipedia, where the first letter of any article's title is always capitalized, even though it may not be displayed as such (see, for instance, IPod). I guess this includes Greek letters such as delta, for when I created this page, I followed the convention established by pages Δ15N, Δ13C, and Δ18O. So from a technical standpoint, I believe that's the reason why the page is titled how it is; I can't speak to the larger issue of whether it's in line with scientific convention. Also note that the lowercase form does redirect to the correct page (δ34S). Thanks! —Collint c 23:00, 14 July 2018 (UTC)Reply
