The naming of the article

Why was this article moved to "Šamac"? It should be named "Bosanski Šamac", and the article "Šamac" should be a disambiguation page, as there are two places with the name: Bosanski Šamac and Slavonski Šamac. 220.245.178.137 08:15, 12 November 2005 (UTC)

My opinion varies depending on the answer to the question: is "Slavonski Samac" the official name of the town in Croatia, or is it officially known as Samac (I would be very grateful if you could find this information, as I'm just a little lazy :) )? If "Samac" is the official name, then "Samac" should be a disambiguation page, "Samac (disambiguation)" shouldn't exist, and the article titles should be "Samac (Bosnia)" and "Samac (Croatia)"; otherwise things should stay the way they are, with maybe a slight adjustment to the message on the top of the articles, in order to be more consistent with the rest of Wikipedia (I haven't checked, but I imagine that similar situations as this have a different message from "see also:", but maybe not - I just love to speculate). 220.245.178.136 16:45, 1 December 2005 (UTC)

The official name of the town in Croatia is "Slavonski Šamac". The former official name of the town in Bosnia was "Bosanski Šamac", but it is officially changed into "Šamac". PANONIAN (talk) 17:06, 1 December 2005 (UTC)

Yea, well, why dont you go and vote on Bosnian election? If you do that you will se the name of the city.

"Bosanski Šamac/Šamac" means that two names are used equally in such documents, which again prove that Šamac is official name used in official documents and you have no reason to delete this name - same apply to Cyrillic script which is one of two official scripts used in the whole Bosnia and Herzegovina. The town is called Šamac, but is used to be called Bosanski Šamac. What the Federation or central government does doesn't matter one jot, because they don't have any authority over Republika Srpska in this area, as was noted above. --Hadžija 16:01, 10 May 2007 (UTC)

name change

Uhm the RS authorities don't have the competency anywhere in the constitution to change towns names, this is done illegally, why is wikipedia obliging to this? Ask the central government of the country what the name is, it is Bosanski Samac.
