Why accent in Ever? edit

Ever is a Scottish name so there's no need for an accent there. I'm surprised because Argentinian press doesn't put accent in Ever and normally Wikipedia take this into account - sometimes, even if it's wrong. —Preceding unsigned comment added by ECanalla (talkcontribs) 14:35, 3 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Agreed, the name should not have a diacritic mark. -- Alexf(Talk/Contribs) 17:25, 6 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
May be the Spanish speaker changed the sound of that word, or written in Spanish way. Matthew_hk tc 19:24, 6 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
It should have an accent, and all the Spanish press puts the accent on. Basically, in the Latin American media, like the French media, there is a tendency not to put an accent on upper case letters. However, the accent is still there, it is simply often not shown typographically.
Wikipedia is not trying to reflect differences in the way that newspapers choose to write a diacritic on an upper-case letters. In French you rarely would, yet no one would suggest taking the diacritic off, eg Émile Zola, even in the French version of Wikipedia. Just because the media may prefer to follow their own standards does not mean that Wikipedia should follow suit.193.200.176.30 (talk) 15:25, 9 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
It's not true that all the Spanish media put an accent on Ever; and about the Latin American media that's not true at all either. Look information about Ángel Matute Morales for instance and you'll see an accent there in his name - and this is only an example. It's always the same. If an Italian has a kid in a Spanish speaking country, some press or people will put an accent in their name (if it is requiered according to Spanish grammar) and that will be totally wrong. For instance Ángel Di Maria, which is an Italian surname but people put wrongly an accent. I think there's a lot to talk about this topic. But, anyway, I think the important thing here is that Ever is not Spanish at all. You will never see Dávid or Míchael (Spanish would require it), so that's why I don't understand the "Éver" thing. His name, whatever is origin, is being written in Spanish, which has a set of very specific rules about tildes (accent marks). By those rules, "palabras graves" (those receiving the emphasis on the next-to-last syllable), get a tilde if they do not end in a vowel, an n, or an s. Therefore, Éver (with a tilde) is the correct spelling. In Spanish, David receives the emphasis on the final syllable (da-VID), making it a "palabra aguda"). Therefore it does not receive a tilde. Michael, when written in a Spanish form (e.g. Máykel) does receive a tilde. That said, many newspapers and other print sources don't apply tildes to capital letter, which is why names often don't show tildes on the first letter. This is a typographical, rather than grammatical, convention. TCSaint (talk) 00:34, 17 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

Internet sex scandal edit

I added a section on the recent news. Éver's misadventures in front of a webcam is all over the papers... See [1]. Even the serious non-tabloids such as Levante-EMV [2] are covering it, and it has appeared on Spanish and Argentina TV.

Why then has what I wrote about it yesterday been removed? Why is it any less newsworthy than, say, Leslie Grantham? Not only has it been rolled back, but I cannot even undo the amendment in the history. Tris2000 (talk) 14:52, 6 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

there's a bit about something similar on Ashley Young's page, surely it can stay on this one. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 58.172.96.45 (talk) 08:00, 10 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Signed by Inter? edit

Is there anything that back the alleged transfer to Inter Milan?. Not in the article. I don't want to start an edit war with registered users but I don't think anything has been announced so far.176.86.10.0 (talk) 19:27, 23 May 2016 (UTC)Reply

He has definitely signed with Inter, it was a done deal a long time ago. It was also confirmed by Zanetti. Matyasth14 (talk) 22:27, 23 May 2016 (UTC)Reply

Transfer to Al-Shabab FC edit

It is written that Banega will join Al-Shabab at the end of the season in the first part of the page. The La Liga season has ended in 2019/20, therefore someone could update the club for this player. Thanks. Paul Vaurie (talk) 03:08, 23 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

I think this article is nicely written.
