The sons of Clovis II edit

The French title Les Énervés de Jumièges is translated in the article as the enervated men of Jumièges. The modern meaning of "enervated" in English appears to be "to make tired", but previously it seems to have had the meaning "to deprive of life-force by removing sinews". A French source in English (Musée des Beaux-Arts) describes the sons as having the tendons of their muscles burnt, which accords with the posture of the two in Luminais' painting (not just "hamstrung" but their arms rendered useless as well). Since Clovis II died at the age of 20 or 21, these two poor sods must have been not more than 4 or 5 years old when they revolted. Xanthomelanoussprog (talk) 09:35, 17 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the source, which enabled me to explain that. (Yes, it is fortunately only a legend.) Yngvadottir (talk) 16:56, 17 July 2014 (UTC)Reply
