Sonia Francius (born May 19, 1957 Saint-Laurent-du-Maroni) is a French civil servant. She is of French Guianese origin and a writer. She was awarded the Legion of Honour.[1]
Until 2023, she was the Director of the National Higher Institute of Teaching and Education of French Guiana, the first Guyanese woman to be appointed to this position. She is also the first Guyanese director of the cabinet of a rector of French Guiana; First Academy Inspector, Director of the Departmental Services of National Education in French Guiana, First woman and Guyanese Director of a decentralised State service: Youth, Sport and Social Cohesion.
Life
editShe studied at the private school of Saint Léon, in French Guiana and at the public school of Saint-Laurent du Maroni. Then, she continued her schooling in Martinique. She completed her secondary education at the Perrinon College and at the Lycée de Jeunes Filles in Fort-de-France.
Sonia Francius passed the National Education Inspector exam in 1991. In 1997, she worked for Christian Duverger, the first Rector of the Academy of French Guiana.[2]
In 2011, she returned to French Guiana and became Director of Youth, Sports and Social Cohesion of French Guiana.[3] In 2018, she was appointed, the director of the École supérieure du professorat et de l'éducation (ESPE).[4]
