Siren Song is a 1994 English opera in one act with music by Jonathan Dove and libretto by Nick Dear based on the 1992 true crime story “Siren Song: A Story Stranger Than Fiction” by Gordon Honeycombe.[1]

History

The opera was commissioned by Almeida Opera with funding from the London Arts Board in 1994. The work premiered on July 14 of that year at the Almeida Theatre.[1]

On August 14, 2007, the opera opened at the Grachtenfestival in Amsterdam, featuring the Siren Ensemble, conducted by Henk Guittart. A live recording of the performance was produced by Chandos Records and released in May 2008.[2]

The work is scored for flute (doubling piccolo), oboe, clarinet (doubling bass clarinet), horn, violin, cello, double bass, piano (doubling celeste), harp, and percussion (one player), including xylophone, vibraphone, bass drum, glockenspiel, clash cymbals, tam-tam, whip, whistle, and two timpani.[1]
