editThe Shostaks come from an ancient Polish family of officials, mainly managing the mints of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. The origin of the surname is the name of the silver coin "shostak", minted in the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth since 1528 at the mints of Krakow and Torun.
