Early life and career

edit

Shibu Chacko was born in Koothattukulam, India. His career began with training in nursing and then progressed to Advanced Clinical Practitioner, particularly in the areas of chronic disease management and acute care.[4][5] Since 2014, he has played a role in encouraging more than 3,000 individuals from BAME backgrounds to register as organ donors.[6][7]

In 2018, he created the world's first educational course on Organ Donation for Healthcare Professionals in collaboration with St George's University of London.[8] This course has since been endorsed by NHS Blood and Transplant. To date the course has attracted over 8,500 learners from 78 countries.[citation needed]

He is an advocate for patient-centred care and development within the healthcare sector striving to make a lasting impact on the future of Organ Donation and healthcare in the UK.[9]

Chacko was awarded an MBE Order of the British Empire for services to the NHS in the 2019 Queen's Birthday Honours.[10][11] This was for his work in Organ Donation awareness within Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) communities, including in his own time.[12][13][14][15]
