Shahi Kabir (born 28 September 1978) is an Indian film director and scriptwriter who works in Malayalam cinema. He is known for his directorial debut Ela Veezha Poonchira, which he was credited as the Best Debut Director at the 53rd Kerala State Film Awards.[1] He has worked in several films including Nayattu (2021) and Joseph (2018).

Early life and career

Kabir was born in Alappuzha, India. He married Sabeena A on July 8, 2007, and has two children. He wrote the script for Joseph (2018),[2] and Nayattu (2021). He also directed Ela Veezha Poonchira.[3]

Style and approach

Shahi Kabir is known for his unique style and approach to storytelling and his films blend realism and artistic expression. He has crafted articles centered around law enforcement and investigative activities for the Kerala Police.[4]

Awards and recognition

His writing talent was recognized with Vanita Film Awards 2019 and Janmabhoomi Film Awards 2018 for Best Scriptwriter, both for the film "Joseph". Additionally, Kabir's talent as a director was recognized with the Kerala State Film Award 2023[5] for Best Debut Director for "Ela Veezha Poonchira". He also won the 2021 Kerala State Film Award for Best Story in the film "Nayattu".[6][7]
