Sachan is one of the territorial groups (sub castes) within the Kurmi caste in Uttar Pradesh, India.[1]

History

Kurmi are a large and widely distributed cultivating caste. Kurmis in Uttar

Pradesh have several groups namely Gangwar, Baiswar, Jaiswar, Kariyar and Sachan. They are a settled agricultural community having land as their primary economic resource. Besides, they also domesticate cows and buffaloes and make earning by animal husbandry. The educated among them prefer to work in the Government or private service than their traditional occupation of cultivation. They are progressive farmers availing benefits of all developmental schemes. The community also has writers, teachers, white-collar job holders, artists, journalists etc.[2]
