Rescue of Fawzia Amin Sido

Fawzia Amin Sido was freed from captivity in Gaza during an operation that was coordinated between Israel, the United States, and other international actors. Sido was kidnapped by the Islamic State in Yazidi community in Sinjar, Iraq in the August of 2014 at the age of 11. Sido was sold and trafficked into Gaza, where she was forced to marry an alleged Hamas fighter.[1][2]

Steve Maman the leader of The Liberation of Christian and Yazidi Children of Iraq non profit organization told to Jerusalem Post that Sido escaped from captivity in late 2023 after her captor was killed in an Israeli airstrike. According to the Israel Defense Forces Sido was rescued in a secret mission from the Gaza Strip through the Kerem Shalom Crossing" and crossed through Israel into Jordan before traveling home to Iraq.[3]
