Range and habitat

Potamonautes montivagus is found in mountain streams in southwestern Tanzania, northern and southeastern Malawi, western Mozambique, eastern Zambia, and eastern Zimbabwe.[1]

Its native habitat is high-elevation rivers, streams, and lakes.[1]
