Notice from the Portals WikiProject

WikiProject Portals is back!

The project was rebooted and completely overhauled on April 17th, 2018. Its goals are to revitalize the entire portal system, make building and maintaining portals easier, support the ongoing improvement of portals and the editors dedicated to this, and design the portals of the future.

As of May 2nd, 2018, membership is at 60 editors, and growing. You are welcome to join us.

There are design initiatives for revitalizing the portals system as a whole, and for improving each component of portals. So far, 2 new dynamic components have been developed: Template:Transclude lead excerpt and Template:Transclude random excerpt.

Tools are provided for building and maintaining portals, including automated portals that update themselves in various ways.

Portal updated, which was reverted

This portal was updated and expanded, which was subsequently reverted by another user in the following edit: diff. The improvements included:

• Overhauled portal with modernized wiki markup using transclusion from articles to display content, which provides readers with current, up-to-date information. Article content from various portal subpages was moved directly into the portal using transclusions.
• New article selections were added in accordance with WP:POG, where it states, "For the Selected article, Selected biography or other Selected content items, find a good number of articles, as many as you can, that could be showcased on the portal" that are "of high quality, either a featured article, a good article or one which deals with its subject substantially or comprehensively".
• Additional updates, cleanup and layout changes had been performed.
• Below is a list of articles that were present prior to the portal's reversion.

Improvements restored

• Nb. The portal improvements have been restored (diff). Consensus at VPP has approved using transclusion templates in portals, which provides users with up-to-date content that is verbatim to that in articles. Also, the user that reverted has since stated, "I commit to no further involvement with portals, in any form." (diff). As such, it is very unlikely that the WP:BRD process will occur with the user.
