Diagrams as a Selected Image edit

After a number of months of diagrams being a Selected Image I have decided to ban them for February and March at least. I also think only photographs should be a selected image but you can comment about the ban extension below. Also for fairness unobjected nominations will have to be renominated for another month and those that have been objected to cannot be renominated at all. Comments edit

Unobjected nominations are already reentered and objected ones are archived. But I disagree with banning diagrams. If users of this WikiProject want a diagram then so be it. No one has the authority to go against the freedom of WikiProject users. You can advise users to stop nominating so many diagrams but you cannot ban it. Sorry, I misunderstood the first part of your comment. If unobjected nominations are all removed, then it won't work as not enough users bother voting for the selected article and image. Also, users can reenter previously unobjected noninations if they wish to. If its still objected, the community will likely object again. Tbo 157(talk) 17:30, 13 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hmm... I think that:

  1. If noms are objected, leave them until there are 5 objections
  2. If noms dont succeed, leave them until they do or are objected
  3. Dont restrict what can be the selected item, but say what the current/last was - and advise users that it would be boring to have another similar

Any further comments?

I think the current system is fine since only about 3 users participate anyway. Tbo 157(talk) 18:03, 19 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Queue for selected article and changes to archive edit

As part of the process of getting Featured Portal status for Portal:London Transport, I have modified the Portal and the selected article page so that a queuing system now operates. Up to three month's selected articles can be set-up in advance and will appear on the Portal page automatically when a new month starts. Guidance on the use of this feature is provided in notes at Portal:London Transport/Selected article. The December article has been selected and prepared. It is ready to go in 10 days time at Portal:London Transport/Selected article/December 2009.

The selected article archive has also been improved to include text of all previous selected articles transcluded into the archive from sub-pages. To add a new article to the archive after its turn on the Portal page has come to an end, simply add the section headings as usual and a link to it thus {{Portal:London_Transport/Selected_article/November 2009}}. The first couple are done and commented out as an example.

Queuing for the Selected image will be implemented in due course. --DavidCane (talk) 02:17, 21 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

Disabled due to lack of interest edit

Following my request on 16 January on the project's talk page for nominations and votes none were received in a month and a half. This page has therefore been disabled and a random choice from our previous selections will now be used on the portal page.--DavidCane (talk) 02:15, 1 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

I seem to have missed the 16 January request! best, Sunil060902 (talk) 20:17, 1 March 2011 (UTC)Reply
