Memorial effort
editThe creator of this portal, User:Fg2, has recently died. I and some other editors have decided that we would try to improve an article, with luck to FA, in his memorial. As per the most recent issue of the Wikipedia Signpost, the article chosen is Mount Fuji. I believe we would all welcome any input from anyone else who wants to create a fitting memorial for this editor. Thank you. John Carter (talk) 14:01, 13 October 2009 (UTC)
Frequency words list
editHello, may you help to expand the articles Word lists by frequency, if I remember well, Japan also have its own frequency list.

Cross-links between Japan and Portal:Japan
editI feel that Wikipedia benefits if people are encouraged to explore. Thus Wikipedia would surely benefit from mutual (cross) links between Portal:Japan, Japan, and maybe also Outline of Japan, but surely it's best to get a consensus before going ahead and adding hatnote links. LittleBen (talk) 04:26, 27 July 2012 (UTC)
- Portal:Japan already links to Japan right on the main page. If you want to add links to the portal from Japan-related articles, you can add {{portal|Japan}} to the page in the "See also" section of the article. ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 04:33, 27 July 2012 (UTC)
- Hatlink added to Japan on Aug. 24 has increased page views, but still quite low. LittleBen (talk) 17:03, 11 September 2012 (UTC)
Transformation belt
editCould you someone knowledgeable about Power Rangers, Kamen Rider, etc. look at this: Template:Did you know nominations/Z Densetsu: Owarinaki Kakumei. The reviewer asks to add a definition of a transformation belt. The articles 変身ベルト and 変身 (ヒーロー) in the Japanese Wikipedia don't have a definition. --Moscow Connection (talk) 16:48, 16 January 2013 (UTC)
Hotaru no Hikari
editI see some comments in the talk pages expressing disagreement with the decision to merge Hotaru no Hikari into Auld Lang Syne. I will be happy to see the article separated, but if anyone with time wants to take a stab at reversing this decision, that would be great since it would make more sense to me. --Makkachin (talk) 06:10, 23 December 2013 (UTC)
Sakuradani Light Railway
editI am very interested in jp:桜谷軽便鉄道 and hope that someone could translate at least parts of this article into Sakuradani Light Railway. --NearEMPTiness (talk) 17:43, 13 November 2015 (UTC)
Iwao Yamawaki
editWould someone who speaks Japanese be kind enough to improve the page on photographer Iwao Yamawaki. The page was created in 2007 but has very little information. There is a Japanese wikipedia page for him which seems to have a bit more detail and it would be useful if someone could translate its contents and refs.Felixkrater (talk) 12:03, 8 January 2017 (UTC)
Notice from the Portals WikiProject
editWikiProject Portals is back!
The project was rebooted and completely overhauled on April 17th, 2018. Its goals are to revitalize the entire portal system, make building and maintaining portals easier, support the ongoing improvement of portals and the editors dedicated to this, and design the portals of the future.
As of May 2nd, 2018, membership is at 60 editors, and growing. You are welcome to join us.
There are design initiatives for revitalizing the portals system as a whole, and for improving each component of portals. So far, 2 new dynamic components have been developed: Template:Transclude lead excerpt and Template:Transclude random excerpt.
Tools are provided for building and maintaining portals, including automated portals that update themselves in various ways.
And, if you are bored and would like something to occupy your mind, we have a wonderful task list.
From your friendly neighborhood Portals WikiProject. Hope to see you there. Sincerely, — The Transhumanist 07:34, 2 May 2018 (UTC)
Proposal to delete all portals

Article selection criteria
editPosting the following criteria here in a conspicuous area, to increase the likelihood of editors seeing it. North America1000 20:10, 9 April 2020 (UTC)
- Copied from Portal:Japan/Selected article: "Feel free to add Japan related Featured, A-Class, or Good articles"
Recognized content
editSection has been moved to Portal:Japan/Recognized content. —andrybak (talk) 11:58, 20 June 2020 (UTC)
2020 portal updates
editThe following updates have been performed to the Japan portal in 2020. North America1000 20:07, 9 April 2020 (UTC)
- Updated the Selected biography section of the portal using Template:Transclude random excerpt, which provides readers with current, up-to-date information that is verbatim to that in articles. A consensus approving the usage of transclusion templates in portals was formed at this Village Pump discussion. Used selections moved to the main portal page from Portal:Japan/Selected biography.
- Expanded the portal, added more GA-class articles to the Selected biography section: Ariwara no Narihira, Kusumoto Ine, Eir Aoi, Hiroh Kikai, Satoshi Kon, Rieko Kodama, Utagawa Toyoharu, Maon Kurosaki, Yamashita Yoshitsugu, Yoko Ono, Masashi Hamauzu, Hirai Kawato, Kabukidō Enkyō, Kawaji Toshiyoshi
- Added FA-class articles to the Selected biography section: Lady Saigō, Morihei Ueshiba, Adolfo Farsari, Satoru Iwata
Recognized content
editThe recognized content section at Portal:Japan/Recognized content was extremely lengthy, so I pruned portions of it, which I have listed on this talk page below, so they're still viewable for editing. North America1000 12:48, 27 May 2021 (UTC)
This is a list of recognized content, updated weekly by JL-Bot (talk · contribs) (typically on Saturdays). There is no need to edit the list yourself. If an article is missing from the list, make sure it is tagged (e.g. {{WikiProject Japan}}) or categorized correctly and wait for the next update. See WP:RECOG for configuration options. |

Portal banner

The portal banner seems to use a wonton font. It's inconsistent whether or not something like this bothers people (my guess is that most Japanese people probably wouldn't mind; these types of fonts are even sometimes used throughout Asia), but it may bother some. I'm not necessarily proposing that it be changed, but just pointing it out to let people know it can be perceived this way. toobigtokale (talk) 00:19, 19 October 2023 (UTC)
I think it should be changed. Not only does it have nothing to do with Japan, it seems in poor taste and unnecessarily stylized. I think the page would be improved if it was replaced with a more standard font. 47.218.254.131 (talk) 22:09, 1 February 2024 (UTC)
Looking for a book
editGood evening,
I am looking for following title as I need information about the song "Chiisana Koi no Uta" written and performed by Mongol800:
- Shiba Tomonori (2021), "平成のヒット曲", Shinchō shinsho (in Japanese), no. 929, Shinjuku: Shinchōsha, p. 303, ISBN 978-4-10-610929-4
I need the exact pages which are about this song. Can someone scan these pages and send it to me? Kindest regards. --Goroth (talk) 20:00, 23 July 2024 (UTC)
