- 1901 – Second Boer War: Victorians involved in running battle with Boers
- 1951 – Korean War: HMAS Sydney begins its second patrol off Korea
- 1915 – World War I: Evacuation of ANZAC forces from Gallipoli begins
- 1941 – World War II: Siege of Tobruk ends after 242 days at a cost of 3,009 Australian casualties and 942 POWs
- 1941 – World War II: Japan invades Malaya and Thailand
- 1941 – World War II: Australia declares war on Japan
- 1917 – World War I: Jerusalem is occupied by the Desert Mounted Corps
- 1942 – World War II: Australian troops occupy Gona, New Guinea
- 1997 – Ted Matthews, the last surviving Australian to land at Gallipoli on 25 April 1915, died.
- 1952 – Korean War: 1st Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment begins Operation Fauna in Korea
- 1916 – World War I: HMAS Sydney and Melbourne join the 2nd Light Cruiser Squadron serving in the North Sea.
- 1917 – World War I: HMAS Australia damaged in a collision with the battle cruiser HMS Repulse
- 1940 – World War II: the 16th Brigade takes part in its first desert action
- 1915 – World War I: Australian Light Horse troops was deployed against pro-Turkish Arabs at Um Rakham
- 1941 – World War II: Japanese forces land at Penang, Malaysia during the Malayan campaign
- 1944 – World War II: Australian N class destroyers bombard Japanese positions in Burma.
- 1939 – World War II: the Second Australian Imperial Force's advance party embarks for the Middle East
- 1943 – World War II: Australians capture Lakona, Greece
- 1940 – World War II: Australian troops from the 6th Division begin moving towards the Egyptian/Libyan border ahead of the Battle of Bardia
- 1967 – Vietnam War: HMAS Perth comes under fire off Dong Hoi, Vietnam
- 1944 – World War II: Troops of the 9th Battalion capture Arty Hill, Bougainville, a major Japanese position on the Numa Numa Trail
- 1951 – Korean War: HMAS Sydney completes a tour of operations off Korea's west coast

- 1941 – World War II: Japanese forces capture Hong Kong
- 1941 – World War II: Prime Minister John Curtin announces that "Australia looks to America" for its protection and survival
- 1940 – World War II: the 6th Division takes part in their first action near Bardia
- 1860 – First Taranaki War: Victorian Colonial warship, HMVS Victoria, takes part in the action at Matarikoriko, New Zealand. Victoria's service in New Zealand waters represents the first overseas military operation by an Australian unit
- 1944 – World War II: Australians of the 25th Battalion occupy Pearl Ridge, Bougainville
