Tenure edit

Following the collapse of the fourth Rutte cabinet in July 2023, Adema continued serving as demissionary minister. He sent a plan to the House of Representatives in April 2024 to tackle a manure surplus that would likely result from the Netherlands losing its exemption in 2026 from a limit in the European Union's (EU) Nitrates Directive on the spreading of nitrogen from manure on farmland. Adema's proposal included a buyout program and would lead to a decrease in the livestock population. The PVV, VVD, NSC, and BBB – representing a majority in the House – called on the minister to hold off the plans due to the ongoing cabinet formation.[2][3]
